hey guys

tomorrow i'm planning to install a 2din dvd headunit into my car (a sony xav-w1). btw the profile pic is incorrect, i now hav an 03 vrx.

i downloaded the wiring harness PDF off installdr that everyone uses, but two things i couldn't figure out:

1) There is a connector with a single blue wire that plugs into the factory headunit. what is this for - headlight illumination maybe? because the installdr guide doesn't show any connections for illumination on the main connector

2) the sony headunit has an annoying wire that needs to be connected to the 'parking brake switch cord' ... apparently this stops DVDs being played unless the park brake is on. does anyone know how to get around this? it's not that i want to drive and watch dvds at once, it's just too much trouble to connect it to the handbrake (also i don't know how). will grounding the wire work??

thanks in advance for any help :D

blue wire = tel mute 90% sure

eath the annoying wire! easy job done, not legal you say.... cops pull you over etc...

there is a button that makes it all legal... the O button!

forget about wiring switches etc...

If you wanted to be sneaky, you could wire a hidden switch in between the H/U and the handbrake, so it won't work when it's not supposed to, and it will work when you want it to.

ok thanx guys... :) will be grouding the annoying green wire permanently for sure.

cops... don't even get me started...

i will stuff around with the multimeter and try and figure out what the blue wire is for.... all logic states that it SHOULD be illumination, as the stock h/u lights up when the headlights are on, and there don't seem to be any wires in the main connector to provide this function.

also i hav to ask andrewd a dumb question: what is 'tel mute' and what is an 'O' button?!!!
