View Full Version : tyre cost - a good quote or not?

I need a complete new set of tyres for the TS, and asked Beaurepaires for a quote. I've currently got 205/65/15s on it, and they quoted $127ea for Dunlop LeMans LM600.
Safety is as always very important, but given a bunch of considerations, cost is critical also at this point in time. So the important question is this: is their quote the best deal I am likely to find, or should I go somewhere or get a different brand/size of tyre instead? Any advice/information anyone might be able to provide on this would be very much appreciated!
i visited a total tyre factory outlet near my place and was quoted $75ea for Dunlop entry levels (14") for my TR. Had them for about 15,000kms now and they havent let me down. Grip great in the wet, provide plenty of traction. If you ask me, i wouldnt be paying more than $100 each for 15" tyres. Call around see what other quotes you get, most outlets will have a standard brand and model of tyre they fit at each size.
Never go to the first place you're quoted! Unless you're super duper 110% sure its the cheapest cause theyre your cousin broooo.

the bridgestone tyres that come standard on the new commodores (re92 i think) are about $100 a tyre.
but to find out if it is a good price simply ring another tyre shop and get a quote on the same tyre.

the RE92s are a good tyre cause there designed for Australian conditions and the dunlops are good too.

I checked with Jax, and they have a budget 205/65R15 for $70 and another (I think it was the RE92) for $100. That's quite a difference! $230 saving over the Beaurepaire's quote.

take a look at Kmart Tyre & Auto, sometimes they have good deals... I had got Bridgestones ER30's 205/65/15 for $90 at one stage and the higest i had to pay for it again was $100 they are silica compound tyres. they are also found on the VZ Belina and such...

$70 per tyre from Jax, in the end. Excellent service, very helpful, and highly recommended. Problem solved! :-)
