Gday all,
Was driving to work today, and had a car staying a far bit away from me, didnt think much of it, until one of the butchers in an adjoining shop to where I work, told me that my brake lights were not working.
Lo' and behold, went to the car, and the brake lights do not work, however the lights still work when I turn the car lights on.
Anyone come across this before, my fault, car fault, wiring, brakes or am I just nuffy.
Also any way for _me_ to fix it =\
Cheers for anyone posting

the globes are dual filament 5w/21w. the 5 are for car lights, the 21 are for brakelights. your 21w filament is dead, but the 5w is fine, hence why it works when headlights are on

i would say just blown bulbs. check fuses first then replace bulbs.

Okay, I'm a total nublord at fuses and this kind of stuff..
What am I looking for, 5/21w bulb? - Do i unscrew the area near my lights inside my boot (Does that even make sense)
Fuses are underneath my steering wheel somewhere yes? wtf would I be checking in the fuses for (beyond being broken)
go into autobarn and they'll sort you out

Fuses are below the steering wheel, should be around the right side of the drivers side footwell. Check any lighting related fuses for anything blown basically, but realistically i'll bet it's just your light globes.

It's just the globe. any servo sells them

Yep. Wont be the fuse, as if it was blown, nothing would work.
Just go in and ask for a 5/21W Brake light bulb. Its a screw type base (in a way) with 2 metal contacts on the bottom of it.
Cost $1.99 from supercheap for 2 :P

Well he Didn't say both went at one time though, just said he found out both were not working, so one day one could of gone, not taking any notice then a week or two later the other one going.

Just come back from Autobarn
Replaced my brake lights ($4.99)
Bought a screwdriver to take out the light bit, replace bulbs ($2.99)
Still no brake lights working.
Check the fuses, they look fine, double check in the manual, yes, I am changing the right fuse
Still no brake lights working.
Looks like I'll have to contact an auto electrician first thing monday morning unless there are more idea's =(

Check the relay fuse as well or even the actual relay itself.
Check the stop light switch.
Turn the switch anticlockwise 1/8 turn to release the switch.
Connect a circuit tester to switch terminals and check whether or not there is continuity when the plunger of the stop light switch is pushed in and when it is released.
The switch is in good condition if there is no continuity when the plunger is pushed in to a depth of within 4 mm from the outer case edge surface, and if there is continuity when it is released.

Didn't have one on me and I wanted to install the things there, incase there were coppers a-roaming, also if I needed to get more things (fuses)
Saved me going back home

Does this mean, when the headlights are on, the brake lights do work, or only the marker lights?
