I am just weighing up my options and i thought i would come on here and talk to those with experience.

I have a 93 TR, 4cyl manual. 250,000kms

I had the timing chain done 13 months ago. It is rattling again, it chews through oil.

I want to know do i replace the car and buy a cheap 3rd gen

or

Can i buy another engine from a wrecker? Would a 3.0 be able to be purchased and installed in my car for under $2000. (I could possibly put the engine in myself. I can get hold of the engine lifter thing. but i would prefer to pay somebody else to do it.)

or

Do I buy another 2.6?

Buy a cheap 3rd gen, if u replace/ recon the motor you still got 250k on all the other moving parts... gbox, shafts, suspension, bearings blah blah blah

But you can really have the same probs with a 3rd gen?
Havn't been much help have i? Sorry:doubt:

if i buy a 3rd gen i will sink more money into it.

there is no point me spending more than the value of the car to fix the TR.

Definatly piss it off.
3rd gens can be had from as little as $4K now.
If your over fixing it and dont really care what kind of magna your in as long as it works then a 3rd gen might be for you

or a cheaper option is buy a good v6 2nd gen for even cheaper, nothing wrong with them if you can find a decent one

from what i have been told the 3.0L wont go because of engine mounts.
Well i will say this but i might get flamed for it.
You have a manual so you have that going for ya, ask around what another 2.6 will cost ya.
I have a 2.6 and it is alot better than alot of 3.0 i have driven. But it all depends what the rest of the car is like?

oh no not another person wanting to do a v6 transplant into a 4cyl... that's the third one in 24 hours :sook:
LOL @ "engine lifter thing"... lol you mean engine crane? I think you'd better leave that to the experts
on a serious note buy a cheap second gen v6
don't spend a cent more on this heap
it'll only cause you more greif
look around and i guarantee you will find a cheap second hand v6
maybe even look for a verada... at least you'll get power windows with it :)

how much have you got to spend btw?

Agree with those above...
Unless you've spent heaps on other mods on this car such as interior, paint or audio, etc.
I'd say sell it while the motor's still running and pick something else up.
If you want to stay with 2nd Gens then look for a V6 Manual or a V6 Verada. The V6's will last for more KMs than the 4's and go better too.
If you want something newer, then look for a 3Gen.

i can spend up to 7500.

it just not worth sinking any more $$ into the tr.

get a 3rd gen. Wheels car of the year for the TE and for good reason much better car. May not look as good imo but the interior and performance is miles ahead of the 2nd gen. I'd look for a kf for that money.

If maintained the engines are bullet proof (both the 4 and the 6), but theyre not quick. The 4's power/economy is lacking even further. (talking about 2nd gens here but same for 3rd gens).

you will be pushing it to find that low ks, but there are plenty of 3rd Gens around that price range...

1998 Verada (http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/MITSUBISHI/VERADA/details.aspx?__sid=10F3E93ED0F7&Cr=1&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCo unt_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&State=All%20States&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&PriceMax=7500&__Nne=20&Model=VERADA&R=1842518&__N=4294964597+0+245+443+506+4294964081+834+285+25 7&Make=MITSUBISHI&state_id=0&trecs=2)
$6000
139,000ks, 3.5ltr, 1 owner, full service history

Can even pick up a TH or TJ standard model for less than $7500 if you wanted something a bit newer.
