Hi there, I am planning to setup a new Sub in my magna. I am under tight budget (around 300$), please advice which one would be the right one to buy. Do I need to buy a mono block with the sub? I really don't have any idea.

I already got an alpine head unit with sub control, S-type rear and splits and a V-power 50x4amp.

Thanks

Thats a fairly tight budget for a sub, as imo you need a monoblock to power it.

You can power it using a 2 channel amp aswell (either one channel per voice coil, or brided and parrel wired iirc).

I know I'll get shot for this - however, the fusion sub packs are pretty good value (include a sub, box, amp, and wiring kit).

Or something like this:

http://www.ryda.com.au/Fusion-EN-AT110-10-Subwoofer-Amp-Pack-p/enat110.htm

Thats for a $300 budget for a sub, amp, and with the fusion, wiring kit (otherwise another $50 for a wiring kit).

For $300 sub without box or amp, you're looking at some decent subs....but expect to spend another $500 for wiring/box/amp to power it......

For that budget you will be pushing it to get sub + amp + cables...

A Response Sub is a good guide for value for money at the bottom end... or look at JBs for a JL or similar sub+box package.
I am assuming you already have a power cable running from your battery to the boot as you have an existing amp.

Response Sub 12" DVC 300Wrms (CS2279) $219
Prefab Box $160
Cable + Fuse - RCA and a bit of power cable $60
Response Amp 2x150W (bridged @ 500W) $249

That's a pretty budget system and already you are quite a bit over the limit. They only way you might manage it is with looking at Cash Convertors or MCA forums to find some cheap 2nd hand stuff.

Definately go second hand with that budget. Maybe save up for a while longer for an amp?

Well if you want a sub, you need an amp. One thing that could help you is getting the response 4x100 amp. You could use two channels for your front speakers then bridge the other two channels to run your sub which is what i'm intending on doing. The response amp was 300 bucks last time i checked and if you look around i'm sure you can find a decent boxed alpine type r for second hand.

If you're really serious about this, save up your dollars and get a seperate amp along with a sub.

The only way you can run your sub is to use ur existing Alpine amp and disconnect the rear splits from it and run them from the deck. Bridge channels 3 and 4 and you will have around 150WRMS to power a sub.

At least then you can spend all $300 on a sub

This is what I was going to say.

Remember with 150wrms you may only get some subs moving so the bass wont be as good as a lower powered sub. I'd recommend the Alpine type-S they're only 250wrms or something so you've got a better chunk of the recommended power in there..

Demo anything you want to buy don't just buy it because some fanboy says it's fullysic and he's got one. (like mr charisma, he's SUCH a fanboy and extremely bias.. look at his post.. it's disgusting)

Funny thing is some of the time I am right and yes I am extremely bias to recommending quality gear... dont hate a player... :bowrofl:

Funny thing is I haven't told him to stay away from anything yet... yet.

150WRMS is enough to run an efficient sub like those offered from Hertz. For more efficiency try and aim for one that is suited for a ported box. Just be carefully not to play the sub with to much distortion.

Team fanboy out.
