I have been reading up to find out whether my TJ (not series 2) has Electonic brake Distribution. There does not seem to be a clear answer (even 380 spec does not show EBD)
Do all 3rd gens with ABS have EBD (the ABS on TJ is very different from that of TS).

I have a TH with ABS, but no EBD... I don't think the TJ or TL do either.

the AWD's have ebd!

ebd is nothing special anyway, read up on how it works and what it does, sounds almost exactly like what ppl believe abs does....

it's no esp anyway

me i prefer no electronic tom foolery to interfear... just gimmie 4 wheel drums 3spd crash box and un assisted steering.... thats driving lol

Hey andrewd, are you sure? I thought the AWD's got the garden variety ABS, although might i add it's very effective.

Hey Thanks, no wonder I'm always thinking the the old 2003 TJ awd's abs (ebd) is so unbelievably ahead of the abs of the work commodore. Now i've got a 2008 Aurion from work which has VSC and EBD which i still don't think compares anywhere close to the stability of the AWD and its ebd system. As you probably now gather, handling & stopping well for a car is more important to me than straight line speed - must be getting old... hmmmm

Peter my TH sports has ABS/EBD.

The TH magna/KH verada were the first aussie built cars to have EBD.

If ya look at the top of the ABS unit (in the engine bay on the passengers side of the car) it will EBD stamped into it.

In reality all EBD does is allow more rear brake pressure but without it "locking" up the rear brakes and thus causing the ABS to cut in, its a electronic version of a manual brake bias setup that race cars have.

Heres a link to a write up on the TH magna about having ABS/EBD:

From my understanding ABS prevents the wheels from locking, while EBD transfers the braking force across the wheels to maximize braking force. Doesn't sound like the same thing to me, together though they "apparently" work wonders.

I agree Lugo, ebd is a smarter system than abs - for instance you're going hard braking into a corner and an inside wheel locks up, abs would pump all 4 wheels while ebd increase the braking for to the outside wheels. definitely more direction control - coupled that with an AWD, it's no wonder this Magna give me so much confidence!

I'll have to check this when I get back from the US, neither drive.com.au or redbook say the 2000 Verada has EBD, but I'll be happy to have it!

Did any of you check out the link i put up in my previous post in this thread?

If not here is the link again: http://www.fastlane.com.au/News/MMAL_THMagna.htm

It explained that the TH/KH magna/verada range was the first aussie built cars to have ABS/EBD, The previous model magna/veradas only had ABS.

Yeah I did, but I want to see it for myself. I haven't read that my car had EBD anywhere except that one link. Redbook, drive and wikipedia mention nothing about EBD which is why I'm slightly dubious.

My October 1999 built TH sports has EBD and i can still remember at the launch of the TH/KH range at work, MMAL made a big fan fare to us employees about all the ABS equipped models having it. lol
