... and now the car idles at 900-1100 rpm. All I did was squirt a heap of carb-cleaner down there. What happened?

is the throtle cable stuck a little, maby there was sooooo munch crap in the that the ecu had to change the idle speed and so when you cleaned it it losened up a bit . just move the idle screw a bit

I did the same with mine and got the same results. Im thinking that the cleaner has cleaned out the IAC valve which may have been getting stuck. Word of warning though, mine was good for a week and is starting to play up again, I think cleaning it a couple more times should have passed all the gunk through though. Nice and easy fix though hey!

Sorry mate. I'm a clown. I've cleared some room now.

Yes its low ks, but it is eleven years old. It wasn't to bad to look at but a fair bit of black stuff came out.

I'm trying everything I can think of that might make the car run drive smoother. I'm finding it difficult to drive this car smoothly. Jerks around a fair bit on trailing throttle.

Is yours smooth to drive? It's a manaul isn't it?

just manually drop your idle with the stop screw otherwise you may need to reset it...

Yeah my Verada is a manual , I also own a TS v6 manual wagon and yes they both jerk on trailing throttle and when you take your foot of the accelerator. My son's is not as bad but his is a sedan. There's not much you can do about it.They are also easy to stall if you not carefull with the clutch. So they are not the easiest cars to drive smoothly. The Verada has a heavy
duty clutch which means a short clutch pedal travel which makes it harder to drive smoothly than my TS.

Thanks for that. It's a bit disappointing that they're not a smooth car to drive, but I'm more relaxed now thinking that there might be nothing unusual about mine.

The workshop manual says to block the 2 ports in the throttle body when using carburettor cleaner to keep the muck away from the ISC and the temperature bypass.

If you have dirt in there it may stop the ISC or the temperature bypass valve returning completely and affecting idle speed.

ummm thats just wrong. Drive mine and you'll see how smooth they should be still easier to drive and smoother than equivalent models with a hd clutch.

Okay, trying to coast along on trailing throttle in mine will cause a subtle kangaroo hopping feeling. It's not huge but it is annoying. It seems to be magnified on bumpy roads (ie inner city Brisbane - gee we have c5@p roads) and car bounces around a fair bit. Refined and smooth it isn't - my old GJ Sigma was better.

It all feels as if the throttle closes too fast when you lift off. I wondered if there was some sort of fuel starvation happening at low speeds or some sort of restriction in the throttle body.

Maybe a new fuel filter would help? Or an injector clean?

What do mean that's just wrong it depends in what gear you are in, speed, driving style and so on .My is worst in 3rd at low speed. If your engine mounts are worn or broken that has an effect aswell. If you look at a 1st gen Magna the autos had softer mounts and a front damper while the manuals had harder ones without the front damper because when you change gears and go on and off the accelerator the motor wouldn't shunt back and fore as much.
I had 2 TP Magnas both manuals and they did the same thing.

yur probably unfair also as mines been tuned but it was the smoother than 03/04 cars to drive. I have an annoying missed map point on 0 load low rpm so it kangaroo hops pretty bad, it ****s me but meh. Ill need a retune at some stage.
