Hey there everyone, ever since I bought it the external temperature on my KF has displayed as 20C. While it's not a huge issue, it would be nice to know the real external temperature from time to time.
Does anyone happen to know:
The likely causes for this?
The location of the external temperature sensor on a KF Xi?
The location of any fuses which effect the external temp sensor?
The location of any interconnects between the climate control box on the dash and the temperature sensor?
Any advice or information anybody has to offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou. :)

no one has answered
worth ringing the mitsi service centre. if you dont have the repair manual
ok a guess then
this may be the puters default setting for the sensor
QED :sensor not working lol

lol
Thanks for having a shot. :)
My basic thinking was similar to yours; the system assumes an ambient temp of 20C whenever it fails to get an actual reading from a real sensor.
Possible causes:
Sensor failure.
Sensor missing completely.
Cabling to the sensor has failed.
Fuse controling the sensor has popped.
More?
I'm not desperate to get it fixed so I'm fairly happy to wait for a little while.
I might go down to a library and photocopy the appropriate pages out of a gregory's for the car and see if I can locate the sensor, maybe clean up its contacts and re-seat it.
If anyone happens to have the appropriate gregory's (or equiv) and would be kind enough to scan in the relevant pages I would be enormously grateful.
Thanks.
ive looked at the online manual they have, and im not sure the major differences between the KH and the KF.
the location on the KH of the sensor is just behind the bumper, towards the passenger side

hope that helps you somewhat

Thankyou for that image. Haven't checked yet but hopefully it will allow me to locate the sensor and figure out what's happened and hopefully get the temp detection working again.
Does anyone know if it plays any part in how the climate control does its job or is it simply for user information purposes?
I've noticed that the climate control does seem to switch automatically between external and internal air and if that's temp related, it'd definately have an impact to have a failed temp sensor.
I believe that it has an effect on the way the auto climate control works, unless there is a second sensor for that. It checks the inside air temp and the outside and it adjusts the heater mixer in accordance with the difference. i believe if the air outside is higher than what you want the temp to be it will switch to recirc air.
There is also an optical sensor on your dash, apparently if you cover it then the fan will slow down (a way to check it works) because if you are in the dark the car wont heat up from the sun.
