hey guys, when i took my car for a test drive i tested the cruise control out to see if it worked and after working out how to use it i got it to work, now ive had the car maybe over a month or so and ive tried a few times to get it workin with no luck, i can press the master switch on the dash and get the orange light to say its engaged but when i press the set button hanging on the steering wheel nothing happens, no dash light to say its working or anything...
any idea whats going on? could it be the switches on the steering wheel?

Must be your dodgy install
If the cruise light isnt coming on, then its probably your set/speed up/etc switch on the steering wheel which isnt workign, or the connection on either end has come apart. There is probably a way to check with a multimeter if the wire is getting a current to see where abouts the problem is.

lol i didnt install it, came with the car when i bought it, its a se so i think it comes with it? or an option or whatever, yeah as i said it worked when i took it for a test drive but ever since the steering wheel buttons dont seem to do anything, can you remove them easily and check them without taking off the wheel? if they are bust are they cheap to replace?
hope its not something worse..

My bad, I thought you just installed it yourself for some reason. Well taking the steerign wheel off is pretty easy and doesnt take long at all, put you can probably just access the switch thingo by taking the front cover off. Not too sure how it works though, put you might be able to play around with it. Also check the fuses in both inside and outside fuse boxes. I think they have their own fuse so everything else will work if its busted. Im sure a replacement one from a wrecker would be cheap as chips, but dont know how easy they are to come by. Ive got the one with the little level on the side of the steering wheel, which I think is pretty rare. More luck if you have the other style I think

I had a similar problem back in 2004 where the cruise control was working one day and then the next, it wasn't. After taking it to my mechanic for a needed tune up, both the Idle Speed Motor and Throttle Position Sensor needed replacing. After they were replaced, the cruise control was working once again, and have not had a problem since.

It could be your vacuum attuator in the engine bay. Ihad the same problem where the light would show on the dash but cruise would not work. Spoke with an auto electrician and tested the attuator and found it wasnt holding vacuum. I bought a second hand part from spiderken off this forum and the cruise has worked perfectly ever since. I've got a 3rd gen verada so i'm not 100% sure on what the attuator looks like on a 2nd gen.

That was $300 reconditioned for the part. I was not aware of this Forum, so I may have got it cheaper or got some good advice about it.

The 2nd Gens runs a cable system, instead of a vacuum actuator. It's quite complicated...
The cruise system is fused like every other system, so hopefully it's just blown, and it's not something exxy.

Just did a search on cruise control problems and found my own N0ob thread...
I've got a bit of spare cash this week and the cruise still isn't working on my car, if i took it to an auto electrician do you reckon they would charge a crapload to trace down the problem?
Also what symptoms should i be on the lookout for if my throttle position sensor is bust?
I only replaced my ISC last year so its not that...
Edit: Just booked it in with my auto elec, $45 for a diagnostic, ill report back here when i know whats wrong with it for anyone else who experiences the same problem.

Well, turns out the Cruise control ECU is buggered, before i go searching through the workshop manual to find out where its located could someone tell me? Also is it easy to replace yourself? They are pricing a genuine one tomorrow morning for me but i dont wanna buy a new one.
Edit: Read the manual and found out its located in the centre console somewhere, sounds easy to replace, if anyone has a spare cruise control ecu laying around im willing to buy:D

Thats no true, I had a 91 KR and it had a vacuum actuator, the cruise would cut out while I was driving on not come on at all, the vacuum hose leading to the cruise control unit had worn with age and had a split in it, after I cut and refit it, it was fine.
