after having the car back from a mates paint shop for 2 days, i ordered 20" Xon Diva's from tempe tyres.. came with all nuts, a set of lock nuts, Kumho (think they are ecsta sp sport or somthing like that) tyres all fitted and balanced.. and hub spacers/rings what ever u wanted to call them..
threw them on the day i got them (over night shipping) no issues with scrubbing etc etc, so in went the King Lows (the 45-50mm drop ones.. not the 35mm ones) all round, with new KYB's and progressive bump stops just incase ;) do it once do it properly.. after they had settled over a few days.. i noticed that the only thing they fouled on.. was the plastic inner gaurds.. which have now been 'customised' perfectly to fit the wheels.. and don't rub anymore.. no gaurd modifications needed.. the 225/35's fit nicley just at the bottom of the gaurds.. carry 4 ppl and a full tank easy..
the 20's physically are bigger than the factory 16's but the speedo doesn't seem to be out too much.. and the rims arn't actually that heavy.. maybe a few kg's more than the factory alloys which i was suprised with..
also fitted one of those K&N pod filters with the adaptor for mitsubishi's they reckon it's designed to not disturb the airflow through the AFM (or what ever mitsi call it) made a couple of brackets up.. minto!!
i 100% belive K&n.. i dunno if it was because my old air filter was full of leaves and birds etc etc, but the new filter started getting better fuel economy almost instantly.. and idled a whole lot smoother, seemed to have restored a bit of 'lost power' also, a change of fuel filter + a tank of vortex 98 and a big mofo bottle of injector cleaner should help things..
spark plugs next.. i've only had the car for about 4 weeks.. i'm pretty much fixing all the previous owners lazyness.. thank god the oil was changes frequintly..
*edit* - got the good pics - head lights are on order FYI. :)

Pretty sure hub spacers are illegal.

not those spacers.. the ones that ceter the wheel on the hub.. not on the studs only.. the little hub rings.. took some photo's yesterday.. post up tonight :)
pics updated in first post, will update with much much better proper digi cam pics when i get my camera back..
They are Centre Bore Adapters. Magna's rims are Hub-Centric, CB is 67.1 mm and because new wheels have bigger CB it is important to use adapters. They will centre the wheel properly on the hub which will result in less vibration.

If I were you I would remove mud flaps.

Got a photo of the pod, wanna see if its the same as mine.
When people see my pod, the first thing they say is that is one huge pod. lol

Its funny, Tempe Tyres solution for fitting wheels onto magna's seems to be those spacers they make up in-house. i have just gone through it myself, but didnt end up putting them on because with the 3mm spacer, i could only get 7 turns on the wheel nut which is not really good (picture hitting a pothole and your front wheel studs snapping). Gotta wonder why they sell them specified for magna fitment but need to supply spacers too? mine are only 18" and i have had other wheels on it that fit straight on.... but anyway, looks pretty good i think hey.

i only put them in on the weekend.. and could settle a furthur 10mm.. so see how it looks after they have been in there for a week or so..
the spacers are only to centre the wheel.. the rims are 20x7.5 with +40 offset (wearing 225/35 rubber), and clear everything with ease, cept for the front inner plastics on full lock which i just cut out with a stanley..
those pics don't really do her justice.. i'll post up some better ones tonight to give everyone a better idea..

just making sure i was clear.. the wheels i have are the correct pattern (5x114.3) and offset (+40) i was reffering to the center bore adaptors as i286 said.. to centre the wheel on the hub, not just the studs..

Series 1 or 2?
I'm thinking S1
hey just noticed that series 1 has a turn knob for the passenger seat adjustment... mines a handle next to the other one on the door side :)

hahaha if your 'dear god' reffers to bling, all show no go etc etc.. my old cars i built over the years had plenty of go, and i used them to circut sprint and drift on QR.. time to settle down a little.. and upgrade from my TH exec daily to a more comfy cruiser.. not that i feel the need to justify myself to you to seek your approval or anything :D

spackbace - it's series 1 00' to be exact :)
bought it very cheap, as it had a few dints, and paint wasn't all that great (previous repairs carried out by an amature panel beater)
with all the stuff i have done to it, wheels, paint, suspension, 2.5" mandril cat back system, and a Sony dvd/cd touchscreen double din h.unit etc it has still cost me quite a bit less than you would pay for a stock KJ Xi
there is still a few things i want to fix/change but only minor things.. like side indicators and prolly take the mud flaps off.. see how it goes..
as for the engine.. i can get trade at mitsubishi.. and i already am on the waiting list from EZ for a t/b and the front section of the exhaust i'll be putting on soon, HPC'd extractors and highflow cat, t/b and some ralliart cams should make her go a little better.. see how things go maybe one of EZ's intake manifolds also..

probably will atleast wanna take the front ones off... thats all i've done on mine, saved alot of scraping :) (KJ on s/lows)
also if you go and get the 380 clear indicators, go get these clear courtesy lights (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=793229&postcount=34), should look alot better on a silver car to not have the red in the door :) and hey, $22 for the indicators, and $18.50 for the courtesy lights... around $40 for a couple of cosmetic changes :)

bought a spare upper inlet manifold.. going to cut it up, fold up a bigger plenum to go on it and port the runners.. 'should' be done over the weekend.. and i'll buzz out the lips on the throttle body also.. see how much of a difference it makes..

Does using anything elese other than 91 make a difference in a stock 3.5 engine?
I know that many vehicles manufactured in Europe benefit from it, but I didn't think that extended to Australian designed / built motors.
Any evidence people?

its been covered more times than you can believe
no makes no difference at all in a 3rd gen magna
it's just a waste of $$$ they heve no knock sensor and there is no benefit to the engine other than the fact its a slightly better grade of fuel
but the cost far outweighs any benefit
should you have a piggyback computer and the ability to alter the tune.... then yeah it's worth it
there is also no proof that premium gives you more km too

Sorry the rims are hideous. I find it very unlikely that they are only marginally heavier than the factory rims. Did you weigh them?
matty.c
06-03-2008, 11:04 AM
no i didn't weigh them.. thanks for your valued input.. i can understand things are not everyones taste.. everyone has an opinion..
i've a noticed a slight increase in fuel economy with my KJ, and my 3.5 TH i used to have.. not really any benifit in performance.. aside from a smoother idle.. and i know that the higher octane petrols contain additives to help clean injectors/valves/piston crowns etc etc.. so i use it anyway..
some updated pics.. took one of the dead coils out of the rear springs.. sits about 20mm lower at the bum end..

I'm not usually a fan of large chromies on any car, especially luxury models, but I think those rims actually suit the car more than any other I've seen.
The paint job looks schmick as well - wish I could afford to do that to my car. :(
Well done mate.

T20 tints all round, and on the sunroof, 2 layers across the back screen..
cost $200.00 all up, and the guy comes out to your home/office to do it.. lifetime warrenty on film, and 3 yrs on workmanship (bubbles etc etc) I've used him on 4 cars.. all turned out perfect.. all quality US made metalised film etc..
PM if you want details.. pics up soon..
