hey all,

I took off the plastic surround that goes around the air vents in the centre consol in my TJ, as standard for putting in the head unit. but evidently I did it wrong and now I cant get it back on.

some how I just pulled the plastic off causing the air vent 'grill' adjuster things to fall out. And I also now cannot turn the plastic knob to change the air flow up or down on the right hand side.
So I cant put it back in because if I line up the grill in the plastic surround it just falls out again when I tilt it down to push it back in. so I took it down to the dealers and they said that I snapped some clips on it anyway and if I ever managed to get it back on it would simply just fall out again.

So any idea's on how I can fix it?

I realise that my description pretty poor so I'll try to post up some pictures tonight

The rotation of the airflow control could well be that you have pulled the cable off. Check down near the drivers footwell up behind the centre console and there will be 2 cables coming from that control unit. Make sure that they are still attached to something.

Sounds like you might have to get a replacement from a wrecker - maybe the whole vent - and fit that. Clips break all the time.

agreed- replace the whole thing, whole lot easier that way and not that expensive.

it couldn't be that expensive from a wreckers.....

just called Eddy Wreckers in Adelaide (where I live) and they said $100 for the whole vent assembley.

Try some more wreckers.
