Hi All,
I have a 2005 TW Magna wagon, and want to install a new HU. I have searched the forums, and have not found any description on how to remove the existing one.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the console?
Thanks
K

It's fairly straightforward, as long as you're not too agressive and rip it out.

Thanks for the help, I have found those guides before, the wiring info is probably OK, but the TW console is a fair bit different. There doesnt seem to be any obvious ways to get at anything!

its the same as other 3rd gens. first pull up the centre console, it sort of comes up and backwards and will just pull out. Then remove the ashtray and pull out the ash tray surround, may take a bit of force. Next go down into the drivers footwell and unclip the rod that comes from the air vents at the top (its like just a little gold clip thing. Then from the front pull out the air vents surround, this may take a bit of force aswell but will come out. Then undo the 4 screws that hold the metal deck brackets to the car and the whole centre piece will pull out. Then you'll get the rest, pull the dash piece off the brackets remove the standard deck, mount up the nex deck and put it all back together in a reverse fashion lol If you cant get something just have a look at it and most of the dash is held in by those clip things that push into holes and expand when they're through the hole. if you brake something, dosn't matter, just go buy another one and atleast you will know how to remove it properly next time lol

K_Sikora,
You are right the TL/TW console is different.
I've got a few pictures showing the TL & TW console and how to pull it apart.
If you are interested to see them send me a PM.

hey guys, simple question here, have a TH magna and am looking to replace the HU only (no speaker or wiring changes), is it as pretty much as easy as removing the old one and slotting the new HU in? or is there a fair amount of rewiring or whatever involved?
EDIT: okay, so it looks like i need one of these (http://www.aerpro.com.au/vrg.php) right? hmm.... i think i'll just get jb to do it for me lol

If you buy a wiring harness it will be much easier.
Wiring wasn't an issue for me but finding a radio that had the features I wanted at a reasonable price and matching the interior was a challenge.
Taking off the console is probably the hardest thing but there are some instructions around.
Does your console look like this one?

sure does, except without the climate control. i've already managed to remove half of it as i'm painting the centre console and dash cluster yellow. i already have several HUs in mind, not looking at anything too elaborate as 95% of the time i just listen to my ipod (and the stock HU already has an aux in)
ahhh the nearest place that has those wiring harnesses is at st marys. to get there i'd need my tomtom. and the memory card in it is corrupted at the moment so it's unusable :(
really want to do it myself but i think at this stage i can't be bothered working out how to do it haha. i have however replaced headlamps and dash cluster LEDs though.

You don't need a TomTom
just go to whereis.com find the address you are going to and print out the map.
To get to St Marys Just get on the M4 and follow the signs, you can't go wrong.
If you have a harness doing the install yourself is really easy just plug it all in and then work out a way to secure it. You will get an idea of how to do it by looking at how the old radio is secured. I used the existing metal bracket, the new radio had pretapped screw holes on the sides so I used them.

I picked up my wiring harness off eBay, means you don't have to chop off the old connector, making it easy to put the old unit back in when you sell, and less chance of connecting the wrong wires to the HU.
