Just talking hypothetical here, does anyone know if it would be remotely possible to put a Mivec 6G75 (Mitsubishi Eclipse) onto a KW AWD platform?
I know it's a long shot, but I have been wondering.

Why does it concern you when you drive a TS

KL/KW GTVi should be on the way mid/end of next year.
This is just a maybe anyway, it all depends on if it will fit, if it will mate to the AWD system, if the auto box will take the power.

No one on this site will be able to tell you for sure if it will fit, or mate to the AWD system.
I'm also tipping that those engines would be rare as rocking horse ****, and suitably expensive.

yes the box can easily take the power, power is isnt the killer anyway, the killer of boxes is torque, and the awd auto can swallow 510nm which is a whole heap more than a povo little 3.8L mivec is going to spit out... mine did just fine when it was s/c'd
the killer is going to be the block
i say NO it wont fit without serious modifications.... why?
well even a stock standard magna engine will not fit into an awd!!!
the awd block is different! you read it here 2nd ;) and first in the other post i made about it, the blocks have about 2" less iron on the rear where the transfer case is, otherwise it hits and wont bolt up
it took my mechanic a few hours with a grinder to get it to a stage where it would fit in nicley

Derry over here in SA (zen coloured TW VRX AWD) knows about that too.

He had his car built from factory with a ralliart engine (Yes he was a MMAL employee at the Lonsdale engine plant at the time). Engine block needed some minor massaging to fit. lol

What about a 6G72 Mivec, a member called meansolara did it back in 05 but that was to a FWD manual box.
Being a 3L it should be smaller than the 3.5L, might not need modifications to mate with the AWD set up.

He just likes planning ahead like me lol
Why would you spend so much money doing that? Supercharge it!

Not looking for a FI approach, not yet anyway.

3L and 3.5L are essentially the same size block etc, but you might get lucky. I remember reading about someone converting from 3.5 to 3.0 mivec but said it wasnt really much quicker, not worth the effort at all.

the block has nothing to do with the awd set up, the ctr diff bolts to the transmission
the only thing the block does is invade the personal space of the ctr diff, an angle grinder give the ctr diff the space it needs to be happy down there, the block wouldn't be much different in them areas on 6G72/4/5 I'd think
putting in a 3.0L would just be plain silly, an awd auto doesn't need top end power, bottom end torque is what it needs, I'd wager a $50 on it that a a ralliart engine in an awd would make sweet fa difference, compared to a 150kw engine that makes 350nm @2800rpm
I'd say a 380 bottom end would bolt in after grinding the brackets off it, throw on some magna heads and the rest of the top end, using the 380 bottom end and you'd be sweet...
that extra capacity would really be noticeable off the line, the awd's and most magnas come on to cam ar around 3000rpm and really take off from there, so maybe with the 6G75 it'd be good from 2000rpm and that'd make a massive difference
but why bother?
supercharge it for less hassle than engineering a new block into it and mine when supercharged made more power @ 3000rpm at the wheels than NA did ever!

The 6G75 already uses Magna heads as far as I'm aware, it certainlly uses the Ralliart Magna camshafts. All you will really need is the Magna intake plenum/TB setup (cable operated) and an aftermarket ECU.

And the fuel injection system off a magna as well I guess.
I got caught up in top power when looking at the 3.0L, silly me.

Good luck fitting that sideways... Think before you type?

Only joking about the V8 bit.
The 3.5 and transfer case take up about all the space in the bay as it is. You'd need to be very clever to fit anything bigger than that in my humble (and serious) opinion.
