Hi guys,

A couple of months ago the central locking stopped working on my 96 TE Executive, naturally being the lazy **** i am i wasn't too bothered and have just been using my key to lock up. I noticed recently however that the button used for locking the car manually from inside seemed loose and decided to open her up and take a look.

My father (an electrician by trade) and i spent a couple of hours looking at it and after fixing a snapped button and snapped door handle (god knows who tried to break into my car :S) i finally came to the conclusion that the electric motor that is designed to turn a few cogs to lock the car had become to weak to actually lock the car.. It unlocks just fine as that uses less power but locking is a definite no..

My question:

Should i bother trying to fix this?
How would i go about doing so?
Has anybody had to do this before who might be able to give me some advice for an easy fix?

I'm thinking that with the cost of replacing that part i may as well just ditch it and go for power windows haha

The servo on the driver's side of my TS was like that for ages, had to lock from that side 'cause it wouldn't go down when locking from passengers; eventually went to the wrecker's and picked up another servo for about $10, has been sweet since.

TE shouldn't be much more expensive, it's only like a year younger.

But it is a bit of a pain to install, assuming the TE doors are like the TS ones. Make sure you get all of the connecting rods, and make sure you put them in the right way; some are bent in certain ways, and will jam if they're wrong when the trim goes on.
