Hey all, Just bought a power chip for my 96 te 4cyl manual but am having problems installing it. It says to locate either the Air Inlet Temp sensor or Coolant Temp sensor. I have a manual for vehicle but cant decifer the diagram very easily due to how small it is. Any help on this would be much appreciated.:)

hey I know this isnt going to be much help and I dont know much about anything but... arent these things dodgy as? didnt someone on this forum only show 1 kw increase and end up getting his money back after great ordeal? I just remember reading alot about it when I was researching the unichip.

If this is one of those ebay jobs dont even try it. All you are doing is changing the resistance of a sensor. In turn may create havoc with the signals the ecu is receiving messing with your fuel mixtures and may be timming.
By the way welcome to the forum.

From memory, user POMEJO had one of these for a while, and got no gain whatsoever from it.

The powerchip comes with a base tune on it for your type of car, and thats it. it doesnt take into account any mods that you have. And I am not sure if it can even be retuned.

They have specific claimed output for each individual car and tune, so its seems ok, not as fi they just say 5% or whatever for every car. Also many good reviews on the website. If there is no increase, take it to the dyno, im sure if it fails to meet what they say you get them mega busted and they take back the chip and pay for the dyno.

Do a google search on it, and have a read of some other forum posts on the subject. Some seem to think they work, others dont. From what ive read on here, they dont work. Your money is better spent on a Greddy, or the like.

Welcome to AMC by the way.

i think he has an ebay chip

as a powerchip is just that and it dosent connect to anything other than the computer...

but on a magna it a smt chip and cant be changed without soldering it on, not plug and play....

but both suck anyway :P

there is a reconnect some wires "power chip" thing from ebay that Chantra got some time ago and had Rhino install it for him. it was basically a resistor of some sort that changed the signals from the o2 sensor to the ecu, only down side to it was the engine warning light stayed on.

btw, its not really a chip.. it was more like cut the wires between o2 sensor and ecu, reconnect wires to object containing resistor

Careful:
Some "chips" require you to cut one wire from the water temp sensor and install a trim pot.

The only thing this does is trick the ECU into thinking the car is still cold and feed it more fuel, great if you rev the crap out of your car all the time... might give 5kw if that...

It mostly just causes you to use heaps more fuel.....

If this is an ebay chip, throw it in the bin.

All they are is a resistor that tricks the ECU into thinking the air entering the intake is colder than it is, therefore the ECU thinks the air is more dense and dumps a crapload more fuel in. So basically you run rich and get SFA gain if any, and also run the risk of causing damage to your donk.

Yeah, with the resistor thing you end up overfueling the car so much that excess fuel escapes past the piston rings and into your oil (diluting it). This would be a bad thing. Don't do it. Go legit chip or piggypack ECU or nothing.
