Sounds like I have worn lifters as the tappet noise doesn't go away even after car is warm.
I have the 3.0L 1994 V6. Have tried Nulon Addative and noise still there. Want to try a heavier oil before I start spending some serious dollars on replacing the lifters. Car has 199,000kms on the clock but runs really well though, don't want to get rid of it.
Which oils are thicker to use, may not sure the problem but a cheaper option to try first.

common problem
you have to undo the inlet manifold to get to the back rocker cover but
best to replace the tappets with new ones (if too expensive an option)
replace only the (hammered/surface damaged ) ones with new
clean the out the old good ones with diesel or petrol then
blow them clean with compressed air
resoak them in oil then refit

There is a method of cleaning them with diesel, in the service manual, I can fwd it to you but mine is for the TJ/KJ but they are all pretty much similar.
Additives and thicker oils won't do much once the tappets start singing, best thing to do (But it's the expensive option) is change them... get new ones and your problems will disappear...
Though 199,000km's is awesome if they are the original ones...
