Hi guys.

Well the 02 Limited is going well but now it's time to upgrade the audio. I want to keep the budget as low as possible- best bang for buck I can what with Xmas, holidays coming up.

I currently have sitting in my old car

Sony MP3 H/U (06 model)
Pioneer 6.5 silver bullet splits
4x125rms jaycar amp
Pioneer 10" sub
Pioneer 6.5 bottom o' the range's

Now for the LE, I was thinking, upgrade the HU to a better one, with a ~$300 or less budget (thanks ebay). Now I'm kind of undecided here. I want something that will get the most music in my car possible, so I was originally thinking of getting a HU with DVD. But, the only ones available mainstream in budget seem to be JVC, which (yes, its embarrassing to dismiss on looks alone) look cheap n nasty IMHO.

So the other main option seems to be the Pio 6950, which has the proper oel display so I can read my long mp3 names, and looks the business which is important to me :D + im sure has lots of other good features being a mid-high end unit. Plus I can score one on ebay for ~$250 it seems.

The question with this is, is the pioneer going to be that much better than the sony? Should I just suck it up and transfer the sony over, and put up with the tacky factor and crappy display?

Now on the speakers, I'm happy with the Pio bullet splits, so I was thinking move them into the front. Now I'm new to the magna audio so I have no idea where the tweeters should go or embarrassingly, if mine has them already. There seems to be some circular pods in the top corners of the dash so could they go in there or? Need help here.

Now I'm personally over having a sub, so I'll sell that along with the cheapy 6.5's, and keep the amp. Now I'm thinking, use the amp to power the fronts and get some 6x9's for the rear shelves.

With the 6x9's, I'm thinking tap into ebay again. Seem to be a lot of Pioneers on here again, so I was thinking some of the TSA-699 series (460w) for about $150 delivered, seems about the most I'd want to pay. However, I've got FA idea about 6x9's and not too much idea about car audio, so if theres better bang for buck out there or specials you guys know of, let me know.

Any and all advice appreciated.

PS - don't flame me for wanting things from ebay. I've bought a full $2k stereo online before separately and of all the places and forums, I had the least trouble with an ebay seller in singapore, and hilariously, that item arrived quicker than the aussies somehow.

i'd say go a pioneer HU, but wait till post xmas sales, get one alot cheaper from places like JB Hifi, and with factory warranty too (prices should be lower than ebay)

as for the splits do you know the model number? so we can work out wattages etc

for the 6x9s, dont use the power figure of 460W, thats MAX power, and will probably be less than 100W... again, 6x9s dont make much difference, so wait till after xmas, buy some half decent pioneer/alpine ones.

keep the amp, if it was me i'd amp the splits, have the 6x9s running of the HU, and bridge the other 2 channels for the sub, should get about 300W going to the sub, decent power. you will notice the difference between a sub and 6x9s, as the sub is designed for the bottom end, 6x9s arent...

so in short, leave ur money till post xmas sales, but what you need then :) could end up with a high-end pioneer deck at under $350 and snap it up straightaway! (look for included ipod cable and bluetooth control)

hope that helps somewhat

Difficult choice because your system is fairly decent and pretty even, as in nothing stands out from the others in terms of better or worse quality that should be upgraded. But would put the head unit first, look at Pioneer like spackbace has suggested. I think next upgrade could be the sub, a nice 12inch unit and custom built box.

Yeah, like I said, don't think I'll go with the sub. I'll put her on LPG eventually and don't want to worry about cylinder and sub in the boot.

I was thinking, I can get the pioneer 5950 + ipod cable for $240. There's no way an Xmas sale can match that. Last JB price I saw was like 390 with the ipod cable...

Also, I'll be interstate for xmas sales... can you use a factory warranty at a different JB store than you bought the gear from?
