Hi people, i got my TE stock headunit out with the two brackets attached on either side. I'm trying to undo the two screws on either side to remove the brackets but the screws are IMPOSSIBLE to remove!! (I may have also broken a couple little clips while getting it out but that's another matter!) Does anyone have a good way of removing REALLY tight screws? I dont care about the head unit btw it's a piece of ****...

get a drill bit the same thickness as the screw or 1/2mm smaller and drill it out
just enough so the head of the screw comes off
i think its a 4mm drill bit

right tool for the right job,
Just use a proper screwdriver and it'll come out fine.

I tried every single screwdriver that we have that fits it and it still wouldnt come out! I'm just going to take it to an auto electrician tomorrow after work and get them to finish the job for me!

Try a cordless electric drill in reverse - with a phillips head driver. They will usually loosen a tight screw.
Just make sure you hold the driver very firmly into the screwhead.
If you don't have a cordless driver- they're really cheap. I got my Ozito (http://www.ozito.com.au/productinfo.aspx?prodid=CDG-300K) from Bunnings for $69: 18V with a spare battery!

I had the exact same problem with the previous head unit in my KF. Destroyed one of my phillips head bits for my electric screwdriver/drill, eventually resorted to just drilling it out.
Theoretically, your new unit should have come with the needed screws so you shouldn't have to worry about destroying the stock screws.

Yer but i'm only replacing it with a TJ stock head unit which is out of my mate's dad's car. And he didnt have the screws soo...
I think ill just go buy some new screws tomorrow and drill the old ones out.
Anyone know where i'd be able to get some screws that will fit in adelaide?

Any hardware store should do the job. If you've got one intact screw out, then take that with you. If you only have drilled heads and dead shafts, take them with you. The larger the hardware store, the better your chances (probably).
You could probably also just ask at the local car-audio place, they may have a few sitting around that they could give you.
Failing that, a wrecker might have some from a car where they've already sold the head and had to take the screws out to get to it.
Plenty of options, but I'd be going with the nearest hardware store.

Car doesn't need to be too done up to fit in at as an Aussie Magna. :)
Maybe try and come along to the cruise happening on December 2:

It'll be my first AMC cruise and the first decent cruise I've ever done in the Verada.

Just remembered i had this thread ages ago! Thought i'd let you know how i ended up goin...
I got impatient and couldn't be screwed buying a new drill bit as mine are all blunt as **** lol
Ended up taking to the old head unit with a hammer as i realised i don't need it anymore  This was great fun and worked a treat as it loosened the old screws enough to remove with a pair of pliers... but then i realised that id completely screwed the brackets and screws
So i went around the corner to an auto electrician (Isaacs Auto Electrical - Definately recommend them, great service, know their stuff!) and the bloke there gave me a few screws for free and even helped me straighten out the damage i'd done to the brackets :D
So yer then it was a matter of just puttin everythin back in and its been great ever since!
Good to hear you got it out, but man, a hammer!? I'm never letting you near my car :bowrofl:
