I think the illegal part about them is that they place undue strain on the studs because the wheels are set further than they were intended to be in the first place. Not sure!

why not just get wheels that fit?
getting stuff engineered in vic is a pain, and you have to submit it to vicroads... then they know your car is modified... and it's not exactly cheap... considering you can just get wheels that fit in the first place :P

Spacers arent that bad.. Only bad part is all the strain is now put on the endsof the studs..:P

ahh i see
im thinking... would a set of stockies be alright to fit (they are 15x7 yes?) and have a +46 offset
so as long as they have the same size tyres then it would represent the same width in and outwards?

I had them but didn't really like them. My wheels continually when out of line and they vibrated a lot. Mine were hub adapters, bolted into the hub as a spacer.

Hub adapters have their own set of studs right ? Thats pretty dodge.

Yeh hub adapters have their own studs, compared to spacers that don't. I wouldn't use spacers at all, maybe hub adapters but nothing better then wheels that just fit!

how much clearance do you need? or are you just putting them on so the wheels stick out a lil and fill the guards up?
i had i think it was 2mm spacers for the fronts in my magna with the 18's and i had them on for a good year or so with no problems what so ever.
running 5mm spacers on the skyline atm and still have a fair bit of stud left to bolt the nut onto coz the studs are pretty long.

Nah my guards where full as they where ever going to get. my wheels used to rub on guards.. Cause my spokes are real chunky Brembos wouldnt fit. Nothing a spacer couldnt fix. Spacer push my wheels out a tad to much so i got Panel Shop to pull my Guards out a bit before they resprayed the car..:)
They can be bought off the shelf in Perth, but it's illegal to use them. Just get rims that fit ur car man..

The hubs are designed to take a lot of weight as well - you move the wheel furthur out, you put less on the hubs and more on the studs - the length of the studs is unimportant in this, as you are just increasing the leverage on the studs the furthur you go outwards.
That said, some old cars came with them standard - my old 1965 fiat had 5mm spacers stock on the rear...
