Not to forums, (I'm a mod on a bike forum) but to owning a Magna :).
I've had two as company cars, but I'm now the delighted owner of a '94 manual 2.6, cashmere in colour, with 288,000 kms on the clock.
Lots of questions to ask, but for moment, Hi, and I'll post a picture of the beastie tomorrow.

erk, should have posted this in the Sticky, shouldn't I???

Hey there.

Hope the car treats you well.

If you have any dramas just do a search here or feel free to ask if you dont find anything by searching.

And yes, a piccy would be nice.

Welcome to AMC :)

May i be the first to say, if you want more power out of your car, just turbo it, or buy a V6, Usually everyone asks that question sooner or later

Hoo-boy, thanks for all the feedback.

A couple of other questions, if I may.

1. Can you get seatcovers that don't cost a king's ransom, that will give you access to the ski hatch from the boot???

2. The car's left front door lock doesn't work due to someone trying to break in. How do I get this fixed and still have use of the same key?

Hey mate! Welcome to the club!

In response to your questions 1) yes, but you need to get them custom fitted for the car, Autobarn can do it for $150, and can also custom fit the fronts so they fit to the front seats perfectly for $150. The Generic versions of the same covers are $50 front and $50 back though, so it's up to you if thats worth it.
2) I'm not 100% sure about, you should be able to get a new handle with lock from the wreckers and have a locksmith re-cut it to use your existing key, but thats not going to be all that cheap either. Might be better off getting keyless entry.

Same happened here, someone pulled up the handle to break in, didn't work after that. :( Took it off, straightened the steel in the door, put a new handle piece in with the old lock fitted, but I had to soak the lock in some acetone to free it up (WD40 should work equally as well). Worked. :)

If the actual key barrel on yours is damaged, you probably will need to get a whole new handle and lock assembly and have it cut.

Thanks for that, Lugo, noted.

magna91, the worst case is right; someone stuck a screwdriver in the keyhole. oh, well, off to a wreckers.

Here's a pic of the beastie; the paint on the bonnet and roof is crook, (I've noticed that that's a common problem (?), but the rest is in great shape.

She looks good, wear to the clear coat is common on any older car if it left out in the weather most of its life, nothing a respray can't fix! Feather down job is what it'll need, much cheaper than a full respray, provided you like the current colour of course.

Is it just the angle of the shot or is your passenger headlight looking a little funny? Might just be the reflections on the photo, hard for me to say lol Otherwise, it looks great, doesn't appear to be any panel damage, which is always great!

Well spotted, Rhys. The L/H headlight is crook due to an unattended to stone hole by the previous owner. I have got hold of a perfect second hand complete L/H headlight from a bloke in WA for $35 + freight. He's also supplied me with a replacement ashtray, $60 all up. (No, I don't smoke, but I hate broken things in and on cars!) Hopefully the light will arrive next week, and then I can find a dark wall and align the lights, because they are all over the shop.

Had several layers of metal disk things which correlate to the key, swapped them out for the ones from the broken lock, and it worked.

Now, a more challenging (perhaps) question.

The car has all the markings on the controls for air conditioning, but has a plastic 'blanker' plug where the switch would be.

Am I to take this to mean that the car once had air, but it has been removed, or that all Magnas had the markings on the dash for the air switch, but not all of them had the stuff that went with it?

If the latter is the case, then how difficult/expensive is it to have air conditioning fitted, and all the guff that goes with a question like this????

a whole system a guess $1500

best go to a wrecker to get the under dash fittings air con pipes and controllers and switches

a compressor /the large condenser with the fan that goes infront of the radiator

be prepared to buy a new dryer tx valve and new gas have the aircon guys fit what you buy
