As I've finally decided to start modding my Magna, I've come up with a bit of a basic list of what I want, and I was wondering what you guys think would be the best brands etc keeping in mind that I am an apprentice living out of home so coin= rare for me
Stage 2 cams
Cam gears
Piggyback ecu
2.5" cat back
Extractors are getting done soon, and I have a K&N panel (who doesn't). Is there anything sort of cheap that I am missing?

i would go stage one cams, stage two will produce crappy idle and will put more stain on your valve springs, the ralli art cams were fitted with upgraded ones, and stage one is more aggressive than the ralli art.
and instead of the extractors, raise the compression ratio to 9.4 or higher by shavin the heads, that and a free flowin rear muffler you should be lookin at 200KW at the fly
im lookin at doin the same soon as i get my hands on this 3.5L engine im trien to get.
mind you the cams are $1000 if you wanted cheper option go ralli art cams seen people quote like under $400(not sure how ture) and raise the compression to like 10:1 as some ppl here have done (KN pannel wont do anything) and extractors will only be like 2Kw max, but may improve your torque curve a bit, justifiable $700???? and with these mods you may have to run premimum unleaded

ok thanks man. I'm not really after dyno figures, but more increasing the midrange torque a bit. I thought about the rpw stage ones, but i'd still want adjustable gears and a piggyback to get any decent gains. Is the standard Sports/VRX muffler a straight through jobby?

yeah the standard sports exhaust is, dont even worry about stage ones then, just go ralli art cams, piggy back haltec Miniceptor prob the cheapest ive seen, adjustable gears and then extractors, bored t/b for some better response
175Kw mabey with much improved torque curve which is wat you are asking,

Cheers dude sound like its what I'm after, and pretty cheap too. I've seen those miniceptors around, they're worth about $650 from RPW i reckon. The pacemakers I'm getting are $680 fitted, Ralliart cams for about $400, cam gears are $250 from RPW, so pretty cheap really. Then bring on the Nitrous...

Yeah tuning and other random installation shouldnt be too big an issue, coz my two housemates are mechanics. And if they can't do it, they will know someone who can.

You'll find with stock compression and no headwork, the RPW stage1 profile (or something very similar) works the best.
With the "stage 2" or similar, you need stiffer valvesprings, which means the heads need to come off (cost goes up). And then with factory 9.0:1 CR and stock heads, you'll lose low-rpm performance for relatively poor gains in top-end power.
Do PLENTY of research before you decide on anything, there's a hell of alot to consider in planning an n/a build. RPW should be able to advice you, and there's plenty of info on here if you search for old threads.
