ok i did a quick search and couldnt find any answers.

i know that if the battery light on the dash comes on it can mean the car is running only on the battery, thus dead alternator.

but recently the light has been coming on for a brief time after start up. now when its on, and i have my headlights on, they are alot brighter, as is parkers, hi beams and interior lights etc. nothing else i can see atm other than those symptoms.

anyone got any ideas?

thanx, tim

Agreed. Regulator. It's about $60ish supplied and fitted by an auto electrician.

The light does not mean the battery is low, it means that the battery is not charging.

Usually indicates an issue with the Alternator, as stated a new voltage regulator should set you back about $50 and only takes 5 mins to fit.

Then there is the issue of cable connections. When did you last clean your battery terminals, earth to body connections and motor to body cable connections? And while you are there, look for dodgy, split or frayed cables. All can cause loss of charge and thus battery or alternator light on. hope this helps

99% sure it'd be your voltage regulator on the alternator - very common. Happened to me, if you lived in vic you could have my reco alternator that i have sitting in my boot. My advice? Go to the wreckers and get an alternator yourself, easy as to take out and to fit. Mine cost ~$30.

it could be a couple of things.

the battery sense wire has grounded
the brushes in the v/regulator are to worn
there is a grounded in the rotor inside the alternator.

most likely its the reg.

to fix the prob ull most likely need to take it to an auto elec. to bad u dont live in sa coz i could fix it for you.lol

Also having the same problem in my second gen but I also get a flash sometimes while I am driving but never for an extended period of time on, just a quick flash now and then while going about the place lately.

Would it likely be the same thing??

Cheers.

yours sounds like the voltage regulator. mine died within like 50k's of driving from the time the light started coming on. could be running low on the brushes
