Has anyone put a shift kit in thier auto 3rd gen, I dunno if it's possible or not and would like to find out. Im not talkin about a short shifter, it's where ur tranny gets tweeked parts in it, I know they come in 1,2,3 and 4 stage kits. My XC falcon had a stage 3 kit in it and gear changes were so fast and sharp, no lag on changes and noticeably more constant power through changes.

Regards GiBB...

As far as I know, it's never been done to a magna auto. There was talk that there was one being commercially developed, but months later the company removed all reference to it from their website. From memory I think someone emailed them about it and they replied saying that they had found it impossible to do because of the "learning" feature of the mitsubishi transmission control unit.

Yeh its the case with a lot of auto tranny shops, i went to a few back in the day and they all basically said the same thing as what black beard has said, although there was one place in melbourne that was keen to do it for around the $1200 mark from memory, i remember ashneel was telling me about it, this was 6ish months ago though.

Just ring around your local or non local auto specialists and see what they say, i doubt its impossible but im tipping it will be expensive!!

apparently a friend of mine from high school reckon he had a stage one shift kit for his TF auto, though he isn't an AMC member

i'm sure someone would do a valve upgrade for them or something. i know the older cars it was just a simple case of taking a backing plate off and changing a diaphram and altering the holes in it. i helped my brother in law do it on his camaro.

Yes but the 3rd gen auto boxes are very complex, there not like the older auto boxes in the fords and holdens etc, but like i said previously this is not to say it cant be done it just cant be done with ease nor can it be done for cheap, it will cost just as much cash as it would cost to throw in a manual gearbox!!!

ask EZ boy he has mentioned that in the us upgraded valve bodys are available for the 5spd autos, being that they are the same as in the eclipse or something like that

I thought it was a matter of putting heavier springs in the valve body so it hold more pressure when shifting? Similar or is that the old type of auto's? Damn magnas:rant:
