its a aftermarket sony head unit. it has modes that you can go through, cd, tuner etc. but when i go onto the aux mode i get nothing

silly question im sure, but is the front aux an INPUT or an OUTPUT aux?
(doesnt make sence really to have output aux on the front, but sony do stupid things IMO)
maybe there are some settings in setup that you can change in regards to aux inputs
(i know with my alpine at least, i can 'turn off' the aux in/outputs individually if i want to)

o ok, yea it is deffinatley aux in. when i go to the aux mode it says "aux in front" i can't find anything in the settings or anything so maybe for some weird reason the aux is shagged or something...its ****ting me not being able to play mp3 cd's anyway so maybe i'll just buy a new one haha

Check another cable first! Could be just faulty.

yea i checked everything, its all fine so im stumped with this one, unless its something internally which i couldn't fix
What model Sony headunit is it? I've got a CDX-A250 in the car, I'll have a squize through the settings now and see if I can find anything about aux...mine works fine though.
Edit: Just had a fiddle with mine, nothing I did could make the aux turn off while running, so I'm stumped, there must be something wrong with the connector on your faceplate, or maybe even the cable your using.
go to www.sony.com.au click on support, select car/marine AV, CD units.. and you can download a user manual for all of their units.
