No it's not, it's in front of the console under the heater and it's a bastard to get out.

you dont need to take out the dash to get to the tcu!
just remove the side carpet from the central console and it should take you 20 mins max. It IS a bitch to get to, just stretch your arms ahaha

Spot on.
Youll need a open ended spanner. 12mm from memory (if not its 10mm or 14mm)
Get some bandaids ready aswell.

Not the easiest to get out but becomes easier once you know where everything is. Take the centre console out along with the side piece on both the passenger and drivers side. May need to take out the drivers footrest as well, next to the pedals. Pull back the carpet on both sides.
Unplug the old TCU and undo the single bolt at the front of the TCU to lift it (1). Don't worry about the 2 bolts in the firewall, the one removed gives you enough clearance to unbolt the 4 small ones underneath the TCU. Once those are out, just lift the old one, drop the new one on and reverse the process to reinstall.
(1) You may be able to get at the 4 gold screws/nuts without unbolting the base plate provided you have the right tools.
Just agreeing with Gas_Hed, keep some bandaids around, good chance you'll need them. I never come out of there without a scratch or two at least. lol

Guys, unless you actually know, shut up and to not comment and confuse people!!!
it is NOT under the ECU
It is NOT hard to get out
You do NOT have to take out the dash.
I can get one out and a new one done in about 10 mins flat
You undo the 2 side covers from the console
On the LHS under the aircon box there is a bracket, unscrew it to get it out of the way
Using a long 8mm ring/open end spanner, remove the 2 nuts underneath on the drivers side
Same on the pass side, unplug and lift a little and will slide out
Naturally to install is the reversal of the above, and no you do not need to take out your windsreen or fit a magnaflow muffler to get it back in.

not so hard after all. after considering the horror stories about these tcus, I thought there is only one thing to do. DO IT! 15 minutes later the old TCU was out, took me eight minutes to get the seats out. I weigh 300 pounds. No room. Take the trims out (two pk screws and three plastic clips, each side) one 12mm nut at the rear of the TCU frame accessible from drivers side, do not undo it completely, just enough to lift the frame so you can get to the 8mm nuts holding the actual TCU to the frame. loosen the two 8mm nuts and they will undo the rest of the way by finger. in the other side undo the two 8mm nuts, same procedure. the three plugs from the harness are held in by a press lever. You only have to push it down, hook the end of your finger behind it holding it down and drag it out. they come out reasonably easy. reverse the procedure for installation and bobs your aunty. test drive and when you find you have all four forward gears again, thank your god, lucky stars or whatever. Cheers and thanks for all the advice. Anybody with a 12mm and 8mm spanner and a pk screw driver can do this. Oh and a 14mm socket for the seatbolts if needed.
