How difficult is it to get the transmission control unit out of a TF? I picked another one up today that had a faulty transmission but I bought it unregistered so I can't drive it to a transmission place to get the control unit scanned so I want to take it out myself and take it in to be scanned for the fault code.
How do I get it out?

fault codes are not read directly from the tcu. You have to plug in a MUT II into the socket under the dash. Maybe hire a car trailer and take the car down to a mechanic that way.

you can pull out fault codes without mut mate, i diagnosed the speed sensor on a tf with itby memory it was code 46!

It has the same problem as my other TF, once it gets turned on and you start driving it, it changes through the first couple of gears really roughly and then kicks into safe mode (where the N on the dash flashes) Dunno if anyone can diagnose it but I sure as hell can't and I thought the easiest would be to just take the control unit to a tranny shop and let them scan it
