Had a friend come over today, she told me she hit a silent cop on the road yesterday and the car hasnt felt right ever since.
Upon looking under the car I can see where the hit has been:

Its a BA XR6, shes obviously going to need the part replaced as it supports the engine and connects to the steering arms etc.
I told her Id ring a ford dismantler around the corner from my work and see if I can get her a price, so what part should I tell the bloke Im after? as in, does this have a technical name or just "bit of metal under the engine"
Thanks.

Looks like the crossmember..... supports the motor/steering rack.
That's a BIG hit.
Excuse my ignorance, whats a silent cop?
Damn must have a hard head... and if it wasn't silent, he/it/she is now!

Holy crap!!! (ummmm..... what is a silent cop??)
Looks to be what I would call the "engine cross member". Don't know if thats the right name, or even a real name though, so don't quote me.
*edit* lawl - beat me to it

thats the main engine crossmember. it's made from cast alloy and with a decent hit can sometimes crack all the way through.
personally i wouldn't be driving the car at all.
to fix it you will need at very least an engine support brace, as posted above the engine mounts to this. probably best to take it to a mechanic.

nah it bolts to the chassis. the lower control arms bolt to it along with the steering rack and other important parts too.

certainly not drivable or weldable
on a first gen the K frame part is removable and is bolted and supported on bushes
on a second gen I dont know if it has the same design
if this part is welded
then it is structual
an will need to be fixed by a panel beater and may need to be put on a chassis alignment machine
whats your insurance cover ?
Dude its a BA XR6 not a second gen

I make the assumption everyone talks magnas
unless otherwise posted
last time i looked under a ford with the crack in the k frame it was going to cost $1200 just for the k frame.
this part of the car should be replaced >>>NOT WELDED
