well basically my cressida seats are pretty comfy, but they offer no side support whatsoever, so im thinking of going to a wrecker (probably jap) and grabbing some seats from say a supra/skyline/ss commo etc which are a bit more sporty feeling (they will eventually be retrimmed)

im just wondering how you would go about getting the seats legally fitted and how much itd cost to make the rails up

a fortune, needs to be engineered to be legal.

But other than that you can get some brackets made up pretty cheap. Just keep in mind safety and insurance.

I didnt know if it was a big financial cost to get it engineered or not and i dont wanna do it dodgy, looks like i might just get my seats built out :)

you will need an engineers report

$300 just for that providing they pass

going to re trim you say

why bother changing the seats then

i know a guy who can make your OE seats look like sports seats... he uses the existing frames strips the seat right back tosses your old foams away and next thing you have recaro look a likes but trimmed to a better finnish than a factory in china can do... and prices are reasonable too

this guy has done many show cars that you see at autosalon etc... usually wins best interior awards... he's in melbourne... i'd have to get you his details nextweek though as i have to make a few calls to track him down

thatd b good mate, by retrimming i was thinking the guy in dandenong who did gerrard's leathers.

i dont want to spend the earth (about $300 or so) to get the seats sitting right, although if they can trim the front seats id be happy to pay 500 or so

just cut out some bits of timber and fix it to the sides of your seat. Hey presto, lateral support without impacting on the comfort of your factory seats!

pick your seats and take the rails off your cressida seats and get them fitted to the new seats, often they will just bolt on, using the cressida spacing. I have done this to a number of cars and never been pinged by rego inspections. and if the work is done only using original parts, the parts are all made to comply with Australian Design Rules so should be no problem

its not so much rego inspections, its more insurance

having owned a skyline, i would say get some seats out of a 33. much more confortable than the magna seats. and you can adjust the side lumbar supports on them.

Is it really that easy to just take another set of seats and just bolt on your old rails?
Can sense this becoming quite popular if its the case

I know you own a Cressida. Most Mitsubishi seats share the same rails and are bolt on (ie; My KJ seats sitting nicely in my TR) so theoretically if every manufacturer follows the same retarded path that Mitsubishi has, then you could grab seats out of whatever Toyota your heart desires.

Supra seats ftw

measure up the mounts... i would think they would share a very similar mount pattern to the a70 supra. they seem to share everything else. when i stop being slack and go out side i'll measure up the supra for ya.

Having dismantled a few cars and having transferred a Recaro through three cars, I can tell you that, typically, the bases are all different, the base mounts to the seat are different and the base to the floor pan are different. Sometimes the bases are rivetted to the rails, sometimes they are bolted. Rivets can be drilled out. If you bolt through a slide rail (using the correct strength bolts of course) you will need to check that the bolt clears the sliding mechanism. There are sometimes matches betweeen different models, but don't expect it.

You also need to measure the seat width to make sure it will fit between the pillar/door and the centre console. Frames can made from square tube and flat stock welded together.

if u ever get supra seats i need the drivers rails off a JZA80 supra. if the cressida has the same rails they might work  actually a cressida wouldn't have hte slide forward function for the rear passengers. but maybe some parts are interchangeable.

are the cressy seats electric?
