View Full Version : What would you pay for a Verada xx?

This topic has been eating away in my mind for a while now, and I believe it will help a few other members looking to buy. Obviously its market specific, so it'll vary from state to state, but I'm looking for a general idea in Vic.

What would be the maximum price you would pay for each of the following, based on being in good nick and clean inside and out, with avg k's, say 150,000km's, Private Seller:

KE Ei
KE X
KF Ei
KF Xi
KH Ei
KH Xi

I don't really have the intention of buying an Ei Verada, but its worth asking all the same. I am atm prepared to pay up to $5.5-6.5k for a KE Xi with the above criteria, am I thinking too low, just right, or too high?

I;ll get the ball rolling:

First principle, I would pay the lowest price the seller is willing to take, and that's the only principle. What is below however is what I'd expect to pay to a rational seller for a mint condition car:

* KE Ei: 5.5-6
* KE Xi: 6
* KF EiL 6.5
* KF Xi: 7
* KH Ei: 8
* KH Xi: 8.5

I bought mine (KE Ei) for $6507 with 111,000km and factory service every 5,000km. To me service books almost add $1k to the price I'm willing to pay, if not more.

As a recommendation, save up and get a KH, as they get a sexy instrument panel and trip comp plus more refinement. If possible aim for one circa 100,000km which has had its major timing belt service done recently.

I paid $7500 for my KH Ei with 112000kms and logbooks.

Yeah but Mitch you're in NSW, prices there are around 500-1000 less on average than VIC and I think you mention you got yours through a family link, so I'd expect that to be around 8.5 in VIC private sale. Good price nevertheless though take care of your car :)

Nah mate, just had my cousin come and look at it with me before I bought it, didn't know the seller beforehand.

Is there really that gap between Vic and NSW? Would have thought they'd be pretty similar.

I think NSW is the cheapest to buy and VIC the most expensive. I've found the gap to be pretty noticeable.

Here is a good one if your budget stretches Lugo, Could snap this for around $7500 with good bargaining:

Oh another reason I paid a little premium is coz mine came with a rhino luggage setup which I thought was good for trips, which cost a few good hundred to setup.

* KE Xi: 6
I'm really quite glad you said that, because thats exactly what I plan on trying to bargain a KE Xi down to. The guy has it listed for $7.7k atm, which is far too high for a 1996 model Verada, its done 153k's and has full service history. :D

I'd love to have $7.5k for a KH, I really would, but my income isn't all that large (in fact its dangerously low) and I really can't afford more than $6k for my new vehicle if I want to afford full comp and petrol lol :cry:

I thought WA was most expensive?

I thought WA was most expensive?

That was my thinking too.

And 153k is pretty good for a 1996. I would have said a bit less than $6k tho.

:cool: I'll sell you mine for $6.5 if you want.. true it's had a crash but you can test drive it obligation free :P

Well it is pretty well looked after based on the pics, and its in South Yarra (very up market area), so the owner is probably pretty anal about keeping it in good nick. Also been garaged its whole life, has a full service history and is one owner from new.

I know red book says up to $5.5k max for a 96 KE Xi, but 1) I don't think the owner will except $5.5k, and 2) Its condition probably warrants the extra $500 over what the red book says. If he won't accept $6k from me, I guess someone else can have it. Insurance will only cover it for $6200, no way I'm paying more than I can insure it for. The fact his "apparently" going overseas too suggests theres a time frame on selling it, which is good for my bargaining!:badgrin:

Heres a link to the listing (http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/MITSUBISHI/VERADA/details.aspx?__sid=1155C2EDE5A0&Cr=0&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCo unt_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&State=Victoria&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&PriceMax=10000&__Nne=20&Model=VERADA&R=1913163&__N=4294964597+82+408+4294964081+834+285+257&Make=MITSUBISHI&state_id=82&trecs=27).
Please no body in the market steal my future car lol As soon as I can sell off my current baby I want this new baby in my garage! Might even consider loaning the dosh off my sister..I'm just concerned about paying it back to her if I have problems selling the rolla.

Oh and zedovski, sorry mate, not in the market for an Ei at this point really, particularly one which has had all its heart and soul thrown off the edge of a bridge then put back in again lol

If it's all in really good nick then it's worth the little bit extra. Good luck with it! $1700 drop may be tough, I managed to squeeze $1000 out of the previous owner of my car (he wanted $8500).

BTW I personally never believe the going overseas crap people put in their ads, it's most of the time a trick to pull more buyers in. Otherwise why would someone compromise their position by letting buyers know they need to sell the car ASAP?

Well the plan is to (with good wording) explain redbook says its worth $5500, if his willing to accept $6000 its sold, otherwise he can hold onto it and try his luck selling it to some n00b for $3000 more than its worth. With any luck he'll want it gone and its mine! :P

While you guys are looking at it, can either of you work out what those alloys are that are fitted to it? They're certainly not Verada wheels of any sort, the KE/KF Xi had those 50 million spoke things, and you two should know the Ei wheels, they're everywhere on here!

Edit: Spose I should mention this one too (http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/MITSUBISHI/VERADA/details.aspx?Cr=12&State=Victoria&R=1900898&state_id=82&__No=0&__N=4294964597+82+443+4294964081+834+285+257&silo=1003&distance=25&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_I mageCount_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_LastModifiedDate_Dat eTime%7C1&trecs=14&__Nne=20&seot=0&PriceMax=7500&__sid=1155C2EDE5A0&Model=VERADA&Make=MITSUBISHI), its the other one I'm looking at. Again a KE Xi, this time in white with sunroof and spoiler but has 195k's. Also has full service history. On the up side it should be easy to get under $6k. Down side is timing belt.

Yeah these look aftermarker, 16in probably.

May be worth asking why did he change them? Could it be he had a lot of gutter rash on them (compromising steering)? In any case if I upgraded my rims I wouldn't get these, the stock ones look 100x better.

No, whatever they are they look better than the standard KE alloys. From the looks of it they are 15".

Stock ones are bloody ugly on the Xi. I'd be much happier with the ones on it, I think they might be factory Mitsubishi ones still, off a TJ Si or something.

White = good (slight bias I admit)
Sunroof = SWEET!
195k = Not terrible, but def check if the timing belt has been done.

Exactly what I was thinking, dad says don't even consider it, but how can I not even take a look? its worth that much. If the timing belt hasn't been done I'll make a point of exaggerating the k's on it and try and get them to $4.5k lol then the $1k service for 200k's wouldn't be so bad. I'd be happier with the green one though, might not have a sunroof, but I like the colour cause its nice and its rare, i prefer the conditions of it and combined with a AMC decal on the back window I might actually get spotted! :P

Yeah if the belt hasn't been done $4.5k max really to be sure you can get it all fixed up under $6k. You could think of it this way. $5.5 for the white one with sunroof and 100000km of timing belt, or $6k with no sunroof and 50k of timingbelt :P

Lugo
04-12-2007, 10:02 PM
Maybe it looks better with wollongongVerada's wheels? :P

Yeah the white one with the timing belt done may have 100k of timing belt, but does it have 100k of engine and gearbox hahaha....I'm always in favour of the lower k car, but if it so happens I can't get the green one down (or it sells), I've no where left to go if I really want a Xi. And if they both sell....I......:cry:

Agreed, and I'm genuinely jealous of the him for what his car cost him! lol

Ever since falling in love with the early 3rd gen verada's I've wanted to own one and put big 5 spoke mags on it....I'm happy to just own one now, doesn't bother me keeping it stock for a while, as long as I have it!!

It says $2.5k for one in good condition with avg k's. But thats not really valid in my case, because my corolla is one of the best in the country, far beyond "good" condition, and it hasn't cracked 184k's yet, which is quite low for a 21yr old car, nearly all have done 2xx k's.

Was the same for me, I actually don't mind my 16" stock wheels, thinking I might stick with them for a while and lower it. They have new tyres so no real rush to replace!

I sold my 1994 Barina with 196000kms and a faulty aircon condenser (known to the buyer) for $4250 :P I think I got the good end of that deal, especially considering redbook is $3700!

Price drop was made on the green KE today, now $6950, that makes it easier for me to get to $6k :P Now just the money....

Had an inquiry for my car today too! Don't think its a potential buyer though :(
