Yeah just what the headings says, does it cold or warm.
Takes around 5-8 seconds to settle back down to normal idle speed.
Is this normal for these V6's?
My only real concern at the moment is the noise when starting the car up at 4 a:m to go to work!
Cheers.

Yes it is normal.
The car needs to warm up, so the initial idle sits higher to do this. The idle will decrease as the engine warms up.

yeah its normal mate - from what i can teel it is to help ensure i nice clean fireup of the engine - remember back in the old days when you had give the engine a little rev to get it to idle smoothly on startup? - this does it for you
i know there will be a more technical reason for it - but thats my understanding
bloody annoying too - me ol TP i had once was beautiful on startup - revved to about 1100-1200rpm and settle down to around 6-700rpm mark.......much better

It's normal. But that said, yours seems on the high side. Mine only runs to about 1600 cold. When it's warm it's more like 1200 and pretty much settles straight to 650. Would be worth getting yours quickly checked just to make sure.
Isn't that just what all fuel injection engines do to warm up? I wish the carbies did it, would mean the corolla wouldn't die on me on a cold morning if I forget to give it a little throttle for a few seconds when I start her up.

my old magna would do this - sit at about 1800rpm before eventually going down to an idle of 900rpm. :)

could also be the sign of a dodgey O2 sensor as well.
