View Full Version : Recommendations for Crossovers

Yesterday, I don't know how, but my speaker wire in my passenger door somehow got hooked on the power window mechanism which managed to ground the wire elsewhere and cause my amps to send out the loudest tone covering all frequencies they could. Long story short, after taking my door apart and fixing everything up and also sealing it up a bit with mdf, the only damage is a blown crossover on my passnger side. There is no sound going to the tweeter.

Now, I have Hertz HSK 165's, a few years old now. Looking at FHRX's prices, I can pick up a new set of crossovers for $95 to suit them. Just wondering if theres anybody that can recommend maybe going for a crossover that's a bit better than the crossovers that come with the HSK's... If it will make an audible difference, better quality, etc. I was tempted at getting the ones for the Mille series that include time alignment, but for close to $1k I think I'll give those a miss. Or if it's worth maybe even looking at a new set of speakers for a couple hundred dollars more. I know I can get some MB Quarts (Discus series I believe) for about $280 from a local audio shop that I was pretty impressed with.

Any help?

You could make them yourself. As long as you don not want to change the tweeter attenuation you can make them. If you download the pdf for you speakers from www.rmaudio.com.au then all the caps etc are listed.

Looks like you may have just blown the capacitor anyways. Have you tried setting it to another setting eg if you have it on -2db change it to 0 or +2db? If it works on the other ones just consult the manual and replace the cap with a new one.

FYI the xover point is at 3.3kHz. Just checked out my bro's manual :D

I would drop Marty a line and see if he is able to fix it easily. He is good with repairs!!

Thanks for the help mate... I haven't actually tried changing the attenuation yet, smart idea. I'll give that a try first.
