ok, first noticed my 2.6 magna had a problem beyond the usual when i saw smoke pouring out of the front bonnet. this was quite a shock and i brought the car to a stop where i inspected it and quickly noticed that oil was leaking at a fairly rapid rate. After making a fair puddle on my girlfriends mum's drive way (not a way to impress i assure you). i called racv and got it towed back to my place.

Now with a ton of degreaser and a hose i decided it was leaking out of the oil sensor, called my mechanic and got it changed for 35 dollars. now to get it to the mechanics i thought it'd be a bright spark and pour a heap of oil into the engine, figuring most of it would end up on the ground anyway. so i got the car back and checked the oil, it was quite significantly over-filled and not nearly as much of it leaked out as i thought it would. i thought well ok i'll get this checked out as soon as possible.

Now after about a half hour of driving the car stalled when it came to a stop and would only start if i revved it and chucked it into drive. i noticed oil burning all from the front and smoke pouring out again. i assume this is the excess oil burning, what should i do at this stage? flush out the oil and replace it? let the excess burn off and try to avoid stalling? and have i done any significant damage to the car? any hints would be appreciated

don take my word for it, but i would suggest, empty out the oil, put some new oil in there and becareful how much you put in there, or empty little bit out and let it settle check the level and keep doing this until its back to normal.

when cold

undo the sump plug with an oil catch container under neath

only let a little bit out and do up the sump plug

check the level and top up if needed

look for leaks from the rocker cover

do not over tighten the two bolts holding down the the rocker covers..they crack easily

Its a 2.6L, give it 2 days and all that oil will be gone anyway :)

lol, that would be funny if it wasnt true. it just seems to chew it up along with petrol and shows no evidence of burning oil other then that its missing. oh well oils changed i didnt die (i bought ramps) and magna sounds a little bit healthier

as said above either drain and refill to the max line (not more). Overfilling can force new leaks due to high oil pressure.
