Hi all
Im looking at buying the steering wheel below, its a bare Ralliart Magna Momo edition. I was wondering how hard these are to change over due to having to remove the airbag and other attatchments off the current wheel then putting it all back on the momo. I would imagine its not a home job due to the airbag and vehicle computers these days.
cheers

approx 10 mins work.
Quite simple really provided you know how to disconnect a battery terminal and use a screwdriver.
Youll also need some torx bits to undo the airbag.

I bought one of those Momo steering wheels a couple of weeks ago from the same person selling them on eBay. It's actually Emtech Automotive in Adelaide who is selling them. Called them up on a Monday, paid $150 for the wheel + $20 postage over the phone, and the wheel was in my hands the next day.
Got the wheel reupholstered in leather and fitted up by Blackman & Sons leather trimmers. Obviously the colour of the leather retrim does not match the colour of the horn pad/air bag cover so i'm going to get parts of the steering wheel retrimmed again using some of the leather from the original wheel. Should look good with a 2 toned look.
But man does it feel nice to hold such a chunky steering wheel!

So you dont need a BOSS kit for them to bolt onto a 3rd gen?
I dont have an air bag so would it still be fine?
And get a pic up when u get it installed man.

No boss kit required, they are designed for 3rd Gen.
The wheel however does require an airbag, but you could get one from a wrecker and fit it on this wheel I guess, just not wired up of course.

$200 to fit it? Or $200 including the wheel?
Very easy to fit yourself :).

You COULD do that, however it would be illegal. If the steering wheel has an airbag it must be functional.

And how the **** are they supposed to test it? lol

Hehe well guess they'd find out if you were in a pretty hard smash, i'd hate for insurance to kick up a stink. I'm not sure why the rule is there, something about the way the steering wheel is designed to act in a crash.

insurance would inspect the airbag if u had a prang but the airbag light would probably stay lit on the dash if theres no airbag connected to it !! heheh i bought one of those wheels,to go with my kj gtvi wheel and standard kl leather steering wheel sittin in me room

I thought you would have grabbed a GTV steering wheel. With the woodgrain parts.

Nah the rim is too thin like the original wheel. The Ralliart rim is chunkier, hence nicer to hold :)

how much was it to do this. as the red would not go well in my car at all.
unless i can just retrim the red to a grey or something.

I paid $150 for the steering wheel, not $200. Any good auto interior upholsterer should be able to replace the red leather with black or grey leather. In my case the entire wheel had to be reupholstered as i have the sand coloured interior in my KJ.

i dont see why not, i mean the law may say not but i cant possibly see how it could be possibly even a fraction more dangerous than the standard wheel

Ok say you're in an accident, front on collision. The Steering wheel is designed to fold under that much pressure with no airbag. If you've got a heavy ass airbag in the middle of it that doesn't deploy, it may not be so easy to bend which = a much more painful you.

yeh that makes sense, i was lookin at the other angle where you didnt have an airbag before and still dont now so no difference, didnt think of that
