last night at tradeskool i had my magna dynoed and it made 102kw and 410nm of torque atw.
the first run only made 96kw but i tweaked the timing and i made 6 kw more.
we also dynoed a r31 skyline that made 162kw atw.
i was doing a forced induction course. the lecturer gave me some ideas of how to turbo the v6. coz theres not much room at the back of the engine for a turbo.

410nm??????
Of Tractive effort, nuttin to do with torque at the engine.
Just to let you know who easily that figure is changed, drop your tyre pressure by 1psi and it will be different lol

Wow interesting 6kw by tweaking the timing, no wonder premium unleaded makes a difference. also how did you tweak the timing? he 2nd gen V6 auto adjust dont they? However someone mentioned turning the distributor to advance it, sure the car would adjust it down to suit, but maybe this allows it to advance higher if it can. Is this what you did???
Cheers,
Ollie

I could be wrong, but I think on 2nd gens, the timing can be adjusted, but not on 3rd gens.

second gens have dizzys but 3rd gens i think have coilpacks. i adjusted it 5 degrees but i didnt earth it out to change it so it might only be a couple of degrees.

sucks eh, all that effort to make as much power as a stock VN commodore :doubt:
What were his "ideas" on turboing it

Third gens have distributers.
lol @ Tweaked the timing

as far as ive been able to gather from my repair book (cant remember the brand) with the 2nd Gens you can 'set' the timing, which in the book dictates how to reset it to stock.
The same process that worked for my turbo import that had the same self adjusting addage is to set the timing up stock, as per the manual, turn the car off, disconnect the TPS and turn back on, now adjust the timing via the distributor to wher eyou want it, then turn the car off and reconnect the TPS, reset the ecu and ground out the timing resistor and now the car will think its at base timing but you have advanced it how ever many degrees.
this is probably less problematic then with my other car, as my other cars, ecu woud take into consideration things such as gear and throttle position and automatically wind in a few more degrees timing via its mapping, so adjsuting the base timing would also add the the WOT timing, but 24BTDC seems to have her purring

haha ideas on turboing your car.
My exec made 100 stock on e10. 2nd gens have ecu adjusting timing to use 91 to 95 octane juice.
Three types of tcharging have been done on magnas. Single, twin and post-cat. Wonder what your teacher had in mind.
Those that can do, the others teach.

Dude, that doesnt make sense, get it right
Those who can, do, those that cant, teach
Ollie
i didnt think you could adjust the timing cos the ecu takes the crank angle sensor into account which cant be fooled.
or something like that.

to adjust the timing on a second gen v6 you bridge a wire to earth then adjust timing then take the bridge out. the wire is located on the firewall near the coil. its black with a yellow trace. it has a plug on the end of it.
