Hey guys
Well i bought some alpine spx 177A's off a MEA forum member and i am using a infinity reference series amp (off Luke - cheers mate) for my front stage.
My question is, I Only have one Dynamat Door Kit, however i also have a roll of flashtac. So where would it be best to implement the dynamat, and where would flashtac suffice?
I was thinking directly behind the speaker on the door skin would be dynamat, and on the metal faces which touch the trim i would use flashtac, is this a good idea??
Tim and Mr Charisma, i need you guys to help me out :P.

Never used flashtac so I dont know how good it is. My only concern is that do you have acoustic tiles for mounting directly behind your woofer?
Obviously if you have a limited amount it is best to deaden around the woofer as best you can and work your way out attempting to seal the front of the woofer from the rear ( as best as you can ). How serious do you plan to go with the preperation? i.e just deadening or full blown MDF/ Silicone etc sealing?
Fhrx Studios selling Dynamat Xtreme sheets for around $30ea.... I used 2 and a bit for each door but my doors in the bora are sealed from factory so I was lucky :D

I am making a MDF plate to go on the plastic baffle, and i am thinking of getting acoustic tiles, just dont know what to use or where to get them. As for seperating the front from the rear, i dont think that will be 100% acheivable, but i do have lots of 3mm mdf about, so i will be sealing the big service hole and blutac/taping the door rods.
I think i will just dynamat behind the woofer and around the woofer mounting where the plastic baffle is, then flashtac everything else that looks like it will vibrate. By the way, the dynamat i have isnt dynamat extreme, its the original dynamat :S the black stuff, does this make a big difference?

do the knock test on areas of your door if it sounds like it will rattle/resonate deaden it. If you are limited, little pieces over the larger pieces of metal are your best bet. Steer clear of curves int he metal as these are naturally much stronger than the areas of flat metal.
Blu tac your lock rods and cover them in electrical tape.
Make sure you tighten all the bolts in your doors too.

For an acoustic tile... use the Focal Plain Chant tiles. I have them and they are great.
I had the egg carton ones from Jaycar for a while and they absorbed too much sucking a heap of midbass away.

Yeah I can say the same for the cheapies. The new ones that I got ( think they are the Focal ones  ) work much better.
Your on the right track dude. The Dynamat around the woofer and behind the speaker should be good. Check the rear of your door trim for rattles as well. I would:
*Deaden the outer skin ( use long strips as much as possible )
*Mount the acoustic tile directly behind the woofer magnet
*Mount your MDF that you intend to mount your woofer on
*As Tim said, hit the inside bit gentle and check for rattles before attempting to cover the service hole.
*Mount any MDF you intend on using for the service hole
*Add some S/D over the inner skin ( I usually use 2 layers around the actual woofer )
*Mount your woofer
*Give it a crank to test for rattles
*Fix any rattles ( if you can )
*Use the gentle whack test on the trim and fix ( Silicone works well )
*Mount the trim
*Test again for loose rattles
*Mount everything properly and make sure everything is tight.
*Enjoy :D

hey guys, just an update, i put a 3 mm mdf plate/panel so that i could mount the type x's onto the plastic baffle, so the window wouldnt foul against the magnet, sealed it off with some liquid nails.
Now the mid bass is a million times better than the stock speakers, but i am finding the higher frequencies a bit sharp, not really the sound from the tweeters but the sound in the 5 - 10 khz range, i think i may have to fiddle with the EQ on the HU.
Unrelated but i am getting ALOT of noise in the signal to the speakers, far more than i was running off the HU, and this is even with the engine off, i ran power away from RCA so i dont know what the problem is, but it is driving me mad. might it be likned to the amp? or grounds?
I havent done any sound deadening and the speakers sound soo good compared to stock, just lacking a bit of depth, but clarity is awesome. no rattles nothing, which is alot different from what i hear from everyone elses experience :S. I just need to know a good oil/dirt.grease remover brand and i will start giving the deadening a crack.

Which side of the car did you run the signal cables on? From memory, the ECU is on the passenger side and is the source for a LOT of noise.
Other thing to do would be to make sure you have decent grounds, sand any paint back etc.

Yeah I ran mine down the middle of the Magna. No problems.
Perhaps you should try plugging and Ipod or Mp3 straight into the amp. At least this will tell you if it is the amp or the Signal RCA's. Also check the mounting of your xovers, its is rare but sometimes they will induce a signal.
What settings do you have on your xovers? The tweeters are 1inch so your xover is probably somewhere between 3 and 4kHz. Also where if they are a bit bright do you have them mounted up high or in the kicks?
If you don't have any rattles, your not turning them up loud enough :bowrofl:

Mr Charisma i have my rca running down the middle and i did what you suggested and yep its the RCA lines that seem to be the problem, now i think this is becasue the wire that goes from the AMP to the X-overs is run along the RCA route aswell, am i correct? If this is the case then i will have to run the RCA along the drivers side then under my front seat away from the xover wire path.
The tweets are in the sails, so that may be why they are so sharp. But i fiddled with the EQ in the head unit and its better now than before.
When i REALLY crank the speakers then i notice how "tinny" it can sound, but that loud is beyond listening pleasure and bordering on painful, at normal listening volumes its clear, just not "warm and deep" as i would like it. The rattles are nearly non exsistent because the plastic baffle is mounted on some thick as weather seal, and the front is really well seperated from the back except for the giant window access hole.
What brand oil and dirt remover do you guys use btw? the one i bought from bunnings i stupidly didnt read "will cause problems on bitumen surfaces" and whats dynamat consist of D'OH!
