I tried for 45 mins to get the dizzy cap of my v6 today but I couldn't wangle it out from under the end of the inlet manifold. There must be a trick to this. Anyone know it?

edit
you turn the motor over so the rotor is at about number 5 cylinder
then move the cap over toward the powersteering pump
the idea is to clear the rotor contact and tilt the cap
------------------------------------------------------
the two screws hold the cap on can break in the dissy housing
then you have to drill out the broken screw use the cap as a guide
dont try to just pull the rotor off
the rotor is held on by a bolt on the opposite side of the brass pointer
take the front 3 leads off before removing the cap
the cap hits up against the inlet manifold so you have to turn the rotor
to a certain position before you can get the cap free

12 mm nut for adjusting the timing . slotted groove on the base of the dissy
you dont have to undo it if you dont want to

Thanks very much for this info magna buff. I'll see if I can get it done tomorrow. Trying to solve a rough running issue.
Talk about a simple job being complex!

What's the rough running issue you got?You seen to have a few problems with your TS.The v6's are fairly easy to work on it just takes abit of time

Apart from the general roughness on trailing throttle that we have spoken about before and the aircon that switches itself on and off, it's recently developed a slight stagger or rough vibration on acceleration from about 1500-2500 rpm. It's pretty annoying. I wanted to check the usual suspects dizzy cap, leads and plugs, but got defeated this afternoon because I couldn't get the damn cap out.
I checked the various vacuum hoses and they look ok, and the pcv valve is sucking OK too.
I guess other things to check would be fuel filter but I had a heart attack when I saw the damn things were about $40 and I have to admit I wasn't feeling too confident about changing it after the dizzy cap beat me this afternoon. I put some injector cleaner in about 400ks ago but I'm sceptical that answers can be found in a bottle.
I don't think I'm having excessive problems, I've driven about 17,000k in the 6months I've had it with no real issues. I had two new CV shafts recently as both went in quick succession and I have a CV shaft specialist near my home. I also had a new receiver/dryer put in the aircon system to try to stop it switching itself on and off, but that hasn't worked so I'll have to take it back to them.
Apart from that she's ok. Exhaust is a bit noisy but it's kind of nice and the jerkyness on trailing throttle makes her a B%&@ch to drive in stop/start traffic, but otherwise I like her a lot. She's a great windsurfing car...
edit: forgot to add that I have oil leaks around my valve covers (surprise).

got the same problem and havent solved it
if you find the cause please post the result
I thought it might just be a sticking throttle cable but its not ?

Which part of my quoted post are your talking about? The jerkyness or the rough acceleration?
I was hoping to ask you for more advice! lol

I am still learning the V6
jerking and acceleration ... do you have cruise control fitted ?

No, there's no cruise control.
For the jerkiness - it's mainly on trailing throttle - especially in low gears - feels like the throttle is slamming shut too hard or like the flywheel is too small car. It also slightly kangaroo hops when you try to take your foot of the gas and coast. It's not an issue above 70kph thankfully.
Makes driving in heavy slow traffic a real trial as it's at its worst in first and second gears.
The rough acceleration is a new problem that started last weekend. Sometimes it's Ok but you can feel it most of the time. Above 2500 rpm it's fine, but below the car gently but noticeably vibrates and staggers when you put your foot down. The car's still drivable and the fuel economy is only off a little so I'm not desperate yet.
It's tedious because it's a very enjoyable car to drive otherwise.

sounds like mine is starting to go like that, will be keen for updates

the cause of the kangaroo hops (not disengaging the clutch fast eneough)
waiting on news from you
For the jerkiness - so dont dissapoint

The clutch (hydraulic) seems to operate normally in all other respects though the pedal sometimes is a little slow returning up (sometimes taps me on the sole of the foot after I've lifted of - return spring?).
The jerkiness continues on trailing throttle even when the car is fully in gear. You can even feel it a little when coasting in 4th at 60kph. So i don't think it's the clutch.
It feels like something is opening and closing the throttle minutely

spray the pedal return spring under the dash with WD 40 or similar

Yeah did that - musthave missed the right spot - Might need more attention.
wangle is such a cool word, thanks for teaching me it.
