Ok I know this was covered and I need to know if any TE owners did the swap to a TJ bootlid so that I can put on some nice TJ taillights.
What I Know:
1. I need to code the boot lock of the TJ's to my TE through lock smith.
2. I need the tj tailights, I am leaning towards Carbon/or clear ones on ebay.
What I want to know
1. There is a wire connecting to the boot lock on the TJ, as I have disconnected it, I noticed the TE one has no wire connected to it. Is this wire going to affect my mod, or I just get the lock coded to my key and it should still be alright?
2. TJ lights, whether clear/ carbon or even standard, do I need to change my wiring looms for them, I know Verada lights, will need to be mod.
Your help is appreciated.

a DIY for this mod would be a good idea as I have often thought about it...

A writeup by someone who has done this mod would be a great help to many thinking of doing this.
Failing that, maybe you could write it up as you do it.
As for which lights, I'd go Verada if your wanting to remain Mitsu stock or the carbon or Dark ones like in my avatar/profile. Mine just plugged in - no mods required.

I have done the KE--> KJ Conversion on my old car.
1. Ignore the wire, it is for remote opening of the boot (?). The manual cable works just fine.
2. Lights should plug in no problem, provided the are Magna ones.

the wire plugged into the lock barrel is fro the brains to know the position of the lock, nothing to do with opening the boot
why not do as i did, toss the lock and fit a rearview camera in it's place!
great spot for it, looks cool yet the camera is hidden and still provides a good view!
awesome mod
sorry no pics car gone now, but immagine instead of seeing a key hole you see the camera lense
camera cost me $50 delivered from HK on ebay and approx 20min to install

Thank you. Really thats what I need to know.
Ok guys.
My car is gun metal grey,
Do you guys think:
1. Carbon Altezza
2. Clear Altezza
3.TJ lights.
4. Verada KJ (But I am not leaning towards these as I know they are quite pricely)

first step on its way, coding of the TJ boot lock to my keys are cheap if you remove it yourself and pass it to a lock smith that can do cars. $25.00
I be testing it by placing it back on the TJ boot to see if it works.

Ive got a broken driver side TJ tail light here somewhere - will look for it
Personally, I'd get the TL/TW boot and KJ lights, the smooth boot lid looks a bit classier to me.
I kinda agree with Nexus though, I'd do a KH conversion if any, those looked the best IMO, not that the KJ ones look bad or anything.
Edit: Or this, a KF to TH conversion keeping the KF boot hahaha lol

I am now with one of the TL wire loom sockets need another to do the convert.
Anyone got a spare wire loom? Is the same thing right? they will fit both TJ and TLs?
I notice the back reverse lights sockets are also different from TJ and TE am I right?
I do a comprehensive write up if I can get things done.

Yes thanks Nexus if you come across one & are prepared to post it I would be happy & pay costs of course. reversing light sockets are on that wiring harness, do you mean license plate lights? they are diff. cut and solder the right ones on to your TE boot wiring harness if you didnt get a TJ harness with boot.
cheers
Yes Brett, Nat will swap any time you wish, but why would you ??

After doing a search, I find that the Clear Chrome ones actually look better than the Carbon ones on my gun metal grey body. Yes I have pictured Verada Kj as well, Yes they will look pretty nice too but Is not the look I want for the car
Any 2nd opinion? I think I get them new on Ebay, Unless anywhere in Perth I can get these.

nexus, hows about meeting up at a cruise, see the rear of mine (KJ), and the rear of mikes (lenda... TJ Sports), KJ rear vs TJ sports rear, he has the clear lights i think, both on sable black (fairly similar to the gunmetal, for purposes of this test!)... say a thursday night sometime? might help the decision

I already went with clear ones. I know Verada looks nice. But it wasn't my intention to go that way. Dave's car is using Verada and I think its the only choice for him as his car's colour does not suit the rest, to be honest.
The gun metal grey can blend in all the lights, I have pictured that.
