Howdy,

Does anyone know where I could get a set of Xenon headlights for a 1999 Verada Xi?

Cheers.

Phillips sell a Xenon conversion kit, but the aiming of your lights will likely go out.

Well maybe not Xenon, maybe just a ultra white light? I think it gives it a classier look. Like the Audi's...

OK...

Long winded explanation here.

I have been working on getting a legal Xenon conversion for the magna/verada headlights and have been banging my head on the table cutting through red/legal tape.

Phillips DO NOT make conversion kits, these are sold by people who use phillips bulbs + ballasts rebased into standard type headlamp bases.

They are illegal, and downright dangerous as the levels of glare for oncoming drivers are excessive. Also, a rebased H7 bulb WILL NOT fit in a Verada/Sports parabolic, simply because the return wire on the HID bulb fouls on the glare shield (hot-spot protector).

If you remove the hotspot protector, then you will end up with people looking onto a very bright bulb. The beam pattern from the parabolics with a HID fitment is barely acceptable, I started a thread ages ago on this, but havn't added anything because I have been a bit busy lately.

I am working on a legal conversion for the parabolic headlights based on using the glass two piece headlights only (the UV content of the bulb destroys the plastic cover) and an Audi TT/ BMW E43 ECode E1 approved HID projector. The projectors cost (for a pair) $300 each, add $150 for bulbs, $500 for ballasts and you have a fair idea what you are up against.

Also, this conversion requires that headlight washers are fitted (windscreen washer jets) in the bumper bar, doesn't look TOO bad, and that all of the original adjustment is maintained.

Autolevelling is something that I am still fighting over, simply because it is impossible to fit autolevelling to a car not fitted with it - you need suspension sensors and a computer to run the whole sheebang.

Autolevelling is not fitted to several vehicles, the OE TT's do not have this and this is what I am arguing.

IF I can get the conversion legal, it would cost about $1500 to convert a pair of headlights if you supply them - These could be rejected if they have excessive stonechips as well.

Headaches all 'round.

But to answer your question - you can get whiter H7's - either Philips Vision Plus, or the far rarer 70W Philips Rallye - which are better than all of the cheap and not-so-cheap asian overwatt rubbish. But they are (rallye) illegal due to the light output. They don't last real long either, but no worse than most.

I think I need to write a headlamp FAQ on the magna headlamps!

Phillips Diamond Vision 5000K Quartz should do the trick, it's white light, not too bright and i bet it would look really nice with your Parabolics too.

it's H4 cost average $120~140
