Hey fellas been reading this thread for quite sometime and learned alot from everyone... Now i have just decided to do some mods to my 2001 Magna Advance. Already done the speakers some 6x9 400w pioneers in the rear and some 6 1/2 sonys in the front. I have a basic Kenwood head unit that i wanna upgrade. Having trouble deciding on these
2 a clarion DB176MP and a blaupunkt Melbourne sd27 just just runs off SD sticks. Dont know which way to go.... Im open to any opinons fellas

Prices? Personally just looking at the headunit's I'd go with the blaupunkt, partly because its better spec'd and partly because I've used that Clarion before and I thought it was a POS to operate. Not having CD though is a bit dodge. Why not have a look at the JVC range, a few of those would combine both those units features.

personally if i didnt wanna spend heaps on a head unit id get an alpine, jvc or pioneer, seem to be all good value for money and can be found for quite cheap

just a note

dont get a headunit without a disc drive!!

you WILL regret it no matter how much you listen to thet silly ipod! if you get a headunit like that may as well just plug the ipod directly into the amps and save some $$$ lol

Only if your not listening to MP3's off the CD.

I reckon best way to pick a head unit is first consider what you want now, what you'll ultimately want in your system later, then look at prices and think about what you could do without based on your budget. Then just look at all the web sites, Pioneer, Alpine, JVC, etc, and pick whichever one you like best. Things to consider would be remote, mp3, usb, iPod cable, bluetooth, amount of RCA's (front, rear, sub), AUX. I wouldn't say internal features such as preset equiliser settings are as important as the physical. And be careful with iPod capabilities, sometimes they say "iPod ready" but you gotta buy this extra brick module thing for it work, what you want is for the cable to connect straight into the back of the head unit with no middle man.

But I also support the idea of having a CD player there, 'cause when you go cd shopping, you can slap that sucker in and listen to your new tunes on the way home!

wollyrada, that looks great. I've been eyeing off that head unit in my showroom (at JVC) and wondering how it'd go in my car, but also looking at the 7" touch panel, hehe :P
How long have you had it for?

/hijack thread

As mentioned above, JVC, alpine, eclipse, all good brands to consider. Keep in mind the JVC stuff will be going through some run out specials over christmas to make way for next seasons stock

i guess there is no real reason, but i do like they way their speakers sound and the look of their headunits, I had a JVC exaad that i loved in the landrover but i traded my landrover on the spot for my magna and didnt even think of taking the JVC out which came with the landrover..... STUPID STUPID STUPID.. i really like another one maybe i should just save up?

JVC can be pretty cheap, have a look around on ebay as well, some good prices, just make sure you know what ur buying, but i'd say definitely worth saving up (shouldnt have to go over $300 for a decent one), and comes feature packed
