Hi All,
I have a 98 Verada.
I have just purchased a 2nd hand Hayman reese tow bar model 1496 thats supposed to fit a 96 and on magna. There is no listing however for this model on the 98 Verada Site. Does anyone know the difference between the verada and the magna, and will it be possible for me to "make it fit" my verada?

Thanks in advance
Daniel

The Verada towbar sits out further to clear the larger rear bumper.

How much further does it stick out?
Is is only a matter of a couple of centimeters or is it > say 10cm?

I already have the tow bar, the wrecker at Yatla said it would fit when he sold it to me. It cost 140 total with 40 of that being postage so at this stage it wouldnt be practical to send it back for a refund.

I am wondering if I can get the gass axe and welder to it and say add some steel to extend the tongue area maybe?

regards
Daniel.

there is a genuine 3rd gen mitsu verada tow bar.

I can get the part number off it if you want.

EDIT: err, just re-read your posts. the verada bar sits out about 40mm (from memory) further than the magna bar. I wouldn't feel comfortable cutting and extending the tongue. that'll lessen the towing capacity of the bar by a bunch!

at the moment, I would say your best bet is to sell the bar you just bought (or get a full refund incl. shipping) and look for a bar that *does* fit a verada.

cheers,

+1 to that idea.

and arnt towbars hardened steel or something to be able to not fatigue from the 'stresses' of pulling along a trailer by that one point on the car?

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

According to Hayman Reese (HR) tow bar diagrams, there are major differences between magna and verada back ends! I have attached diagrams of (HR) towbars for both Verada and Magna sent to me by HR.

I think it was pretty good of them (HR) to just email me these diagrams. Their customer support is pretty good.

So It appears that i will have to try and sell the one I have locally as its not worth asking for a refund and then paying the postage back to brisbane.

Thanks for your replies,

Daniel.

Um, was that PDF meant to prove something?

All it says is the Magna/Verada WAGON rears are the same.

And is also has a diagram for a Magna Sedan. Thats all.......

Hi All,
Yes I see what you mean, and I have clarified it on the HR Web Site. The 1554 is for a Verada or Magna wagon. I have requested from HR a diagram of model 1519 which is for the verada sedan between years 10/1996-08/2001. I will post this diagram when I receive it.

All is not lost yet then, it may fit.

regards,
Daniel.

Hi All,
As promised I have uploaded a pic of the Verada HR 1519 towbar for comparison to HR 1496 Magna towbar.

Judging by the distance between bolt holes the lug does seem longer ~10cm. The lug mounting point is lower but only by a couple of cm. The towbar\car mounting mechanism is different. It should be noted that the Verada model is rated at 1.5 Tones while the Magna model is rated at 1 Ton.

Inspection and measurement suggests that the Magna Tow Bar will bolt to the Verada, and that in order to reach out past the bumper the lug needs to be ~12cm longer.

This weekend I will mount the Magna towbar on the Verada and get some better measurements.

Regards,
Daniel.
