was wondering if a leaking exhaust gasket lead to really high fuel economy

it wouldnt be the sole cause of high fuel econ

might be a contributing factor in that the engine wont be getting rid of its spent gases as efficiently as factory design...

there would prolly be another issue somewhere that would be the bigger cause of high fuel useage

does the computer know which engine / tranny you have to be able to tell you its consumption figures?
there was a thread around here a while ago about that - the guys car was set to a 3L instead of a 3.5L or something?
in my KL at least, hold the "set" button on the dash while turning from Acc to Ign and it will tell you in the screen what engine the computer thinks its driving.

yeah when i first got the vera it was set to 3l, but i set it to 3.5 l ages ago, and when i reset the ecu, i dunno why its doing it, nd at the momment cant afford any thing but petrol:) it all happened when i fitted a pod filter, put all the panel filter stuff back in and reset the ecu but never really changed the fuel consumption. today was sittin at 17.5 all day no matter how i drove.

Chances are when you reset the ECU it went back to thinking it was a 3.0L.

What made you think it was the exhaust gasket? If it is leaking get a mate to block the end of the exhaust and see if you can hear a hissing.

I assume you are talking about setting 3l/3.5L for the trip computer, after an ECU reset. This is because the trip computer loses its settings, nothing to do with the ECU's mapping (It only has one set, for the 3.5L).
