hello everyone. im new to this :)

i have just taken over my parents (on P's now) 1996 TE/KE MAGNA EXECUTIVE and im trying to install a new car audio system.
i will not be keeping this car for more than 2 years so i dont want to go overboard.

does this sound good.
HEAD UNIT: EONON 877 w/ dvd screen
REAR: JL AUDIO TR690
FRONT: JL AUDIO 650
AMP: KENWOOD KAC-6403

also.. i need to dismantle the head unit (stock one) and the spare DIN space underneath. i have never done this before, but i tried yesterday, where i pulled apart underneath the steering wheel & so on. but i could not reach the screws which held the head unit to this other metal bit. basically i couldnt do it.

i dont want to go to JB HI FI and pay 300$ for installation.
people please help a first timer :)

First, its TE not KE, KE is the verada.

Second, I'd be a bit careful of those eonon head units, ive heard very mixed reports, but mixed means that some people must like them i guess! :P

hey no need to remove the plastic bits under the console to install a h/u>
http://members.optusnet.com.au/miltonf/car/mitsu/console/stereoremoval.htm

heres how to take off the fascia bits to get to the h/u. also i recommend going to strathfield and buying those aero pro adaptors if they make them for ur h/u. saves cutting and soldering. all u do is plug and play

No need to apologise mate, wasn't having a go. I didnt realise it said both under the hood???
probs cos the bonnet can be used on either. Is the eonon touchscreen or no?

its up to you but if you are just setting this car up for a couple of years are you sure you need the dvd screen? i just think how often will u be able to watch it haha? i would just go with a decent mp3 HU, but if u will use it then sounds good

p.s. the adapters are gold

Are you serious?

That removal guide is dumbed down for even the most inept clown.. Where on earth did you go wrong? Did you read any of it or just try to follow the pretty pictures?

The reason Im asking is because i created that how-to and would like to update it for people who fail at following what i thought was a pretty simple instruction manual.

O and where abouts in Vic are you. I could possibly lend you a hand.

well i havent got it all yet, but definitely after the new year i should have everything ready :)

i went wrong where it said remove top console. it was held in very firmly and could not pull it out by hand. so i got screw drivers did a little pivot thing and yanked them out (well ripped them out) now hopefully i can put them back in.

i live in essendon/strathmore.

all i wanted to do was remove the stock head unit. and underneath it (empty DIN)... farout!...

btw im 17, 18 in march, so im configuring all my audio before i can drive it. so still purchasing a few things in the meantime.

awesome

you might still be able to put it back together depending how much you broke it, otherwise try a wreckers, shouldn't be to much

haha yer i followed that guide too and although it was easy to follow i had a bit of trouble with a couple clips and snapped them! Now the top part where the air-con ducts are and the bit that the ash tray is in pop out all the time and i have to smack them back in lol Nothing major tho so i'm not really worried because in thinking of replacing it or painting it silver sum time early next year.

cheers

Hey Bain. I followe dyour guide for removal etc when I did my install and had no probs. You dont even need to remove the top vents. You can move them up enough to get a screw driver in to remove all the screws without removig them.

Yeah you can.

The problem with that is the console is pretty cheap and can flake, peel or get scratched if the screwdriver butts up against it.

I prefer to remove everything so my fat fingers dont stuff something up!
