Sorry guys, this is going to be vague and i cant give too much detail because i really, simply, don't know.

Anyway, when accelerating, theres a new noise ontop of the usual sound of the engine...
it's like a um... buzzing, sounds kinda electricish.. i'm trying to think of things to compare it to but i'm coming up blank.

It changes in pitch with with the revs... for lack of other ideas i guess it sounds like a low pitched buzzing kinda supercharger, except i don't have a supercharger

Anyway, i know you've got bugger all info, but can anybody suggest any idea's of what the heck this noise is? I assume it is a problem that needs to be fixed if its something the car doesn't normally do.

Take care

when i got my rada, it used to make a high pitched buzzing sound when i was sharply accelerating away - with radio/cd/dvd all switched off.

mine just dissapeared after a while actually - havnt heard it in a couple of months now.

might be the same thing maybe?

if its not coming out of your speakers it could be a baffle plate in your exhaust 'Y' piece(the bit where the front and back manifolds come together).
They have a tendancy of coming loose and rattling. From memory most of the lads and lasies on here have had this problem at one stage or another.

i had that problem in my TF... expensive part to replace... can't remember how much it was... somewhere around or close to $500 for parts and labour.

$500! i think you got a bit ripped off mate, thats like my female co worker who paid $1100 to replace the clutch in a 1st Gen and $400 for a USED muffler only to be installed.

i really appreciate the replies guys,

as some of you have suggested, i had pondered if it was feedback through the speakers, but with the headunits faceplate taken off it still happens... i'll look into this exhaust idea, and it makes sense as the car does have a noisy sports exhaust installed.

On a level i'm actually relieved, if it ain't the engine, then its not a "OMG ITS GUNNA DIE" situation, but still, it's one thats gotta be fixed eventually.

Cheers, and merry christmas everyone :D

its not a muffler... it a brand new engine pipe... its a reknown fact that that piece is expensive... and i did it through a mitsubishi dealership... don't expect anything cheap through them..
