Hi all,

Just purchased a TL magna auto with the triptronic, love the car but the auto is starting to bug me. This maybe completely normal but the auto seems a little to eager to change down a gear what i mean is say you are going along the highway doing 90 and you just put a little more on the pedal it changes down to third and takes off and when driving along say a backstreet at 50 it seems to like to just cruise around in third at lower speeds rather then change into fourth. To be honest this is my first auto so its not like i can compare to other auto's i have had. I hear that the gearbox learns driving style so is it just a case of resetting computer and going for a bit of a drive?

sounds like before you got it has had a flogging...

yes the auto adjusts to your driving style, so floor it everywhere and then when your just cruising around it thinks your going to floor it so it would make the un necessary change... trying to read your mind ;)

try just taking it easy and it will adjust to your driving style, or d/c the neg batt terminal for a few min and then just contine to drive as normal

andrewd beat me to it... someones been up it before you got it, but if you search the forum you will find plenty who complain that their auto stays in 5th around town or won't kick back overtaking. but it will work out how you like it before long.

my 5speed auto holds 5th when doing 50km/hr and just under - motor is ticking over at a very lazy 1000rpm, which is prolly too much stress on the gearbox.

if you put it in tippy mode it wont drop back the gears because its waiting for you to tell it what gear it should pick up - apparently driving around in tippy and nannering will help it learn faster?
either that - or just do the reset as mentioned above
or
wait out the new learning period :)

just a couple of cyclenders short! (unfort!)
and the extra power
and the extra fuel that itl chew thru town / stop start driving
oh, and the engine faces a different way in a v8!

when i got my KL, i found my tranny to want to jump into higher gears and hold them when i put my foot down to overtake etc - i made short work of that learnt program the first night i had it.. then i had to drive nicely to make it forget that !!!

reset or stick with it - itl change to a more sedate pattern either way :)

Thanks for the advice guys now that i think about it the day i got it the battery had been disconnected so it might have even picked up on me just experimenting with "how fast does this thing go" first day. I usually drive like miss daisy so it shouldn't be a problem when it relearns my regular driving style.
