Hey All,
Just wondering if anyone knows the stock ride height (ground to bottom of the vehicle) for a 1998 Solara (TF i think it is) I bought mine recently and i thort it was supposed to be where it is now but i was parked next to another one the other day and mine is a lot lower, not being able to contact the seller i cant work out if mine has been dropped.
Also does anyone know if mudgaurds are a legal requirement in QLD?? i took one off the other day and it looks ****loads better without them. Ive read everything i can find and it says nothing about whether you have to have them or not.
Any help would be much apprecaited.
Cheers,
Kieran

the mud guards were only an optional extra, like a stock base model exe wont have them
so no they wouldnt be a legal requirement

I think I've read somewhere that the ground clearance for a stock Magna is about 156mm. So if it's much lower than that, there's a fair chance it's been lowered.
And no, mudflaps are not a legal requirement.

look in your owner's manual, its in there... all i remember is that the 2.4L Magna is 10mm lower than the 3.0L Magna... I sold my TF with the owner's manual in it or i would be able to help you, otherwise use red book or drive or cars guide websites, they have a vehicle specs section, should contain everything you need to know.

Kieran, your car is lowered. The guy at the car yard doesn't know what he's talking about. I've told you about this before :) Trust me bro, I picked up on it when I first saw your car before you bought it :P
Mudguards are not a legal requirement, my car doesn't have them, and my mother's brand new Civic was bought without them from factory.
mud flaps are only req if 200mm of tyre is exposed from the rear of car from what i can remember

i removed my mud flaps after i lowered the TF...had i not, they would be the lowest point of the car...and it would have been less than 100mm...

Thanks everyone,
I had a feeling she was lowered, i had a look and the springs are still black  go figure. But i had a full car load today (three large adults in the back) and it scraped at the back around any corner doin more than 40k's. Pretty sure i should be concerned about it but not sure what i can do about it.
As for the mudflaps they are gone as soon as i knock off work early enuff this week. gonna colour code the plastic strips while im at it :D
Thanks again,
Kieran

well you can spray the springs black... anyone can do it if you get bored enough...
just hope that its not springs that have gone soft over time... or you might need to replace them.

The thort of softening springs over time had crossed my mind, however the car is completely level from front to back, wouldn't the front sag first because of the weight from the engine?

not sure about that. Never owned a car long enough to know first hand, but my dad's EL Falcon needed springs and shocks as they were all getting worn out and soft with age.
perhaps if the car handles reasonable atm, then take have them checked at your next service. the suspension issues with dad's EL was brought up when he sent his car for routine service.
