I've just put in a dash clock for my TS and the bloddy backlight doesn't work. It is possible that I've got the wiring wrong and I have already searched the forums about the wiring so no need to remind me 'cos I'll check my wiring soon. Is there any chance that the globe might have blown? If so, does anyone know what type of globe this is and how easy it is to replace?

best way to check the wiring is with a multimeter. if it reads 12V then your getting power.
bulbs im sure are T5 but id take it apart and have a look.mine dont work either for some reason

dont stress I have been in lots of TR/TS and
something about the clock doesnt work

go to a dollar shop and get a cheapie and double side tape it to the dash

lol Thanks Buff. The reason I put it in is because the clock on my radio doesn't have a backlight and I thought this was a nice cheap option that would still fit in well with the car. It's not a big job but it is a bit of a pain to take it apart again. The things we do for our cars .

the backlight could be finito
use a multimeter like paula said and check

Pretty sure the bulbs and holders are identical to most of the console ones; just pocket a couple of dozen next time you visit the wreckers!:D

True, but you've got to realize how dodgy wreckers are....Yeh its $50, but he said $25, ok say $30 then..
Making in up as they go...

Yet when we needed fuses who forgot to bring his box of them lol

The way these clocks are stock don't they only light up when the headlights are on? Should one try to match up the wiring to a Verada when they install it? It'd make sense to me :P

that's right they only light up when the parkers are active
you've got a point there

Looks like I have a thing or two to learn about wreckers 'eh. lol

I pay for pretty much everything I get, and why not, I can walk out of U-Pull-It with a 'barrow full of parts for $100 down. Great prices, but they're the only wreckers I know to sell so cheap. I occasionally follow the trend though and have managed to grab about 100 fuses, 10 wiring harnesses, a box of bolts, couple of small washer hoses, a good belt or two and a few switches here and there throughout the various wreckers. (Everyone I know does this, not surprising at the prices some wreckers charge for the simplest part)

That said, I could use a spare alternator, maybe I need to learn a bit from dimi... :P

Dimi:

I drive with my headlights on all the time 'cos I've got paras and Blue Vision globes so there must be something wrong with wiring or globe. I'll have to drop into the wreckers and see if I can stooge them.

:bowrofl: HAHAHAHA stooge them LOL that's the way! *high 5*

if your headlights are "always on" when you start the car there must be a wiring muck up there
so let me double check - you're saying, even with the switch "off" the lights are still on??

JDART

Nah, what I meant was that I turn them on myself every time i start the car. Having them on all the time would be a massive pain in the **** and would definitely be a wiring problem.

Bulbs and the like mean absolutely nothing to wreckers. Half the time I go in there, get the couple of bits I needed, take it to the counter and they go :gtfo: , take it. Plus the ABC wreckers up here (our equivalent of pick-a-part) charge you $2 to get in the door now, so I think that more than covers the odd bulb or fuse. They generally only worry about the big things, that's where they make their money... you know stuff like alternators...

Anyway, back on track... the bulbs/holders should be the same as the ones in the hazard / demister switches. Even after a heap of searching, I have still yet to identify the bulb type; they are similar to T5 in size, but instead of having a wedge base they have loose wire leads which wrap around/under the holder. As such, I still haven't managed to replace them with LEDs.

If you have a 12V power supply handy somewhere (eg. computer power supply; careful not to blow your computer up!), take the clock out and test it all with that. That's how I figured out the wiring for mine, and it's much easier to experiment outside of the car than inside it!

Figured out what the problem was with my new clock. Turns out a solder didn't quite connect properly. After that was done is was all good. Cheers for the help.

I feel forgotten now lol

Get you multimeter out, you will need the following connections live

Power
Earth
Dash Lights

Check you are getting power when your dash lights are actually on, this may be the cause. Also check between the earth and the light to ensure you have continuity to ensure the globe is not u/s
