Hey All.

Looking to buy some new rubber and was just wondering what do you guys think is a good value for money performance tire in 225/50 R17?

Im currently looking at the following;

Bridgstone Potenza RE-001 Adrenalin $248ea
Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2 $246ea
Falken ZE-329 $205ea
TOYO Proxes 4 $?Anything else you guys would recommend? I Owned the Falken FK-451 in 235/40 R18 on my other rims and they were the BOMB! But im considering the Toyo's and the Bridgestones this time round...

EDIT: Looking for a set of four for $1000 or under!

Regards,
Alex

we've got the Proxes4 on the Barina, which are a great tyre, and would probably cost around or less than $250 each, so far the life on em hasn't been that great but i guess thats a drawback on most "sport" tyres

i got the bob jane performance tyre, i can get the proper name if you like, for around 200 a tyre, might be a bit more, but i got them cheaper because i bought mags at the same time. anyways they have done me very well, and lasted a long time. they seem to handle the hot roads as well, as i have done some driving up north at 40+ degree days, at 110 constant for 400 kays. hope this is any help, can get exacts on the tyres if you like.

I've got the Proxes 4 on my Ralliart and they are really good. Mine cost less than $200 a tyre and are wearing really well. I have done about 12,000 on them and I think they will last another 20,000 easy. The tyre bloke I got them from said that there are better tyres on the market but you have to pay for them and they won't last as long. I suppose you get what you pay for. For everyday use I would say the Proxes 4 are pretty good, they are really good in the wet.
Theres my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

i've used BF Goodrich GeForce Profilers (think they've changed the name now, was the 1 under the comp tyres) and dunlop sp3000.

both are very good tyres. i think the BFG stuck a bit better, specially in the wet, but they didn't wear as good as i would have liked.

PS. these were in 18's too

Dunno how much they are in that size, but Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2, or Pilot Sport are excellent.

I've been very pleased with the Federal SS595 in that size on my Ralliart. Grip in wet and dry is excellent, although it has made the steering a bit heavier on initial turn-in (anybody else noticed that with their tyres?).

I would rate the Federals well above the Falkens I had previously (and much cheaper), and they have a good looking uni-directional profile.

Out of those i'd pick the Falken A-329's

I have them on my VR-X and they are great.....
Forget Bridgestones unless you're going to the S series (as in S-03 etc. (My Evo 6 came with the S-01.... brilliant tyre.. hideously expensive though)
As for the others.. unless you're ready to fork out over $300 a corner... don't bother....

I got mine for about $125 fitted and balanced and as far as bang for your buck goes they grip like hell, in the wet and dry...

Most of Falken's tyres are great but the A-329 has big wide grooves for the wet with a softer compound rubber which equals loads of grip.... In the dry they kick butt.... don't squeal (Like cheap bridgies) and are quite a comfortable confident ride. the only down side is they get a little noisy on certain types of bitumen... nothing crazy just not the quietest tyre on the market..

Def go the 329's

im a big fan of the eagle F1's can be a little pricey though but are really a great all round peice of rubber. quiet enough, grip well, last well, and awesom inthe wet.

I loved my Falkens but i found them rather noisey. The RE-001 bridgestones are supposed to be thier new flagship model and I can get them for $248 a pop..

The falken A-329 I can get for $205ea but i would prefer the FK-452 as they are the flagship model as well and have greater performance. (The A-329 are thier 'base' model tire]

As with the TOYO's i have heard nothing but good news about them but i cant find a place with a sub $250 price...

Alex

Your load rate? Those Adrenalins are 94....
Check my post on my new tyres, Hankook K 104. 250 ea. Out of "sporty tyres" they score above average.
Ah, meant to add, mate Slayer has Proxes 4 (225) and I reckon K 104 has better dry cornering grip.

Just got some more prices. How would you guys rate the above listed tires?

Being replacement for S03 and G III, Adrenalins are expected to be a good tyres. Bridgestone tyres were always at the top in the "Wheels" magazine Tyre Test.
Definitely I would rate them higher than ZE 329. Toyo's price (high) does not match their score (low) on tyre tests, talking about Proxes T1R here.
If Michelins are made in Taiwan or somewhere around there, their quality might be questionable. There is a thread somewhere about Good Year F1 made in Taiwan and disappointing quality compared to one made in Germany.

$248 is fair price for good quality performance tyre.

$400 a corner for Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2's, 245/40/18.

yeah i wouldnt consider anything really performance unless it was over the $300 mark a corner, admittedly i am not bothered with it to much on the magna just try to keep tread up but it will be a concern on my next car ..

for 400 each u can get semi's cant you? if u get a good deal that is, but will be **** on the wet and last about 15 000kms

Yeah could prolly get semis, but the amount of grip on these in 245's is crazy with AWD. The Bugatti Veyron runs Michelin Pilot Sport Cup so they can't be that bad. :P

What is the road noise level like with the bridgestone potenza RE-001 adrenalins in 225/50 R17 ? Would you class them as a quiet tyre?
I like my creature comforts. :2cool:
Thanks.
