Hey all,
First off i want to apologise if this has been asked a million times, i did a quick search but nothing came up. So if you do hav a link then feel free to post it and tell me to piss off.
I was sitting in my passenger seat the other day and ive decided that the giant dash bit in front is a bit bloody boring, just wondering how hard it would be to install a small screen in there. obviously there would be cutting involved but is there anything behind it that would cause concern? im pretty sure i dont hav an airbag there but hey you never know its a 98 TF solara anyway.
Thanks,
Kieran

Have a look at Bigs writeup on mp3car.com. He put a touchscreen LCD in there.

kj.ei, I think he means where the passenger air bag is fitted on higher models.
If you don't have the cut out for the airbag, there isn't one, and I don't see why you couldn't fit a screen in there if you wanted to, there would be enough space, although its a bit pointless if you ask me.

It could be done, but would you really want to? Think about it, if you don't like it when it's in there, you have to buy another dash.

I reckon I could do it... Get airbag panel from a newer magna... Glass a monitor into that, cut your existing dash up, mount etc.
Pretty much impossible to make stock again though.

I dont really see much point to it either i just reckon it would look cool. it seems like a fairly large area with nothin in it thort it needed spicing up a bit.
Luke you reckon you could do it urself? i didnt realise it was that sort of a job but thats sweet :)
Maybe il just put sum christmas lights on there with sticky tape to get into the season lol lol
Thanks for the referral kj :)
Best place to put a passenger lcd is in the airbag compartment. Anywhere else and you will have to rip upholstery up. I have air bags so im not familiar with the compartment. Im sure its very possible though, first thing to do is remove the compartment and see what you have to work with. Take a photo of it if you do and i can help you more.

See the panel on the left hand side that looks like a panel laid on top of the dash? Yours is flat smooth there, buy an airbag panel like that from the wreckers, you'll have to carve up your dash to get it in though
It's do-able though.
yea that would be much easier actually. Simple cut and shut job then.

i was making these for members that let you still use a headunit:

the best way to do the tv on the passenger side is using a tf dash, the one that had 2 gloveboxes (one up in the blank area) and modifying the glovebox up top to house a screen. theres plenty of room in the background for everything.
