sounds like a rush job too me.....

choose your day carefully if you plan to do it outside of a booth.......have seen a few paintjobs go south over nothing more than too much moisture in the air......(humidity)

humidity blisters arnt real pretty.....

Ribec,

thanks for you concern mate,
i have a 40ft garage i will be painting inside, it is dry and warm inside.

i am only hoping to have the painting done on Friday, although i won't be doing it on a rainy day or even overcast, it will need to be sunny :)

make sure you spray in less than 80% humidity, even that high you run risks but it should be ok. Good luck

One thing i never got is do you have to remove all of the old paint before you can spray on the new primer and paint?

You should if you do it properly, otherwise it doesn't stick as well and can bubble and/or peel.

I was under the assumption that as long as its all sanded down properly with no paint flaking or anything its fine.

Same here. I was told that as long as the paint surface is smooth without being shiny, then the primer will stick and the paint will adhere well. Makes more sense to me...

it is a common misconception that primer has to be put down over the whole surface before painting, when in actual fact it only needs to go over any repairs or paint faults. factory 2pack paint actually makes an excellent base for new paint to go straight over as long as its prepared properly.

yes ive sprayed panels before on my car, its fine as long as you sand the original paint down smooth, then u wont have any issues at all.

looks like you even donated your shed cass for his cause!!

with all this effort, did you not want to swank up the appearence a bit and smooth the rubbing strip on the doors or get rid of the chrome strip? If/when i spray my car everything possible will be smoothed, buts thats a big "if" atm

good luck guys!!!!

latest spray job..clear to be going on day after christmas.

you will also get the best results if you mix some colour into your clear coat......

its amazing how many people do not think of this.....on cars i and my old masn have done, we mixed 50/50 clear and colour........givesd a very good finish gives alot of "depth" - like you are looking into to the panelr, you will take off a small bit of clear - as well as colour, your paint will always look brand new

alright, i have a few quick photo's too show how its going.
its not quite finished yet... still needs the trimmings etc put back and spoiler and then cut back and polish the rest of the car.

i have put pearl blue in a few spots as you can see in the pictures... its my new favorite color!
Cass gave me the idea for all the Blue Pearl..

ADZ, It looks fantastic, but its a real shame you cant lower the car....

If its done in acrylic wont the front end stone chip like a mofo?
And do the mirrors dam it :P

Then after a week Buff it Then hand buff it and it will look great and also then you'll see your good and bad moments painting it

Looks great! But paint the new grille the body colour... Looks mismatched otherwise.
