I don't know how many people have had this problem but Ive just been told that I cant drive anymore. I'm learning in my grandparents car (because I live with them) but now they've said I cant. Why? Insurance companies ripping us off thats why. Instead of the usual $400 the pay per year, to insure the car for me would cost $1100! So now I'm left with like 10 hours logged (cause I'm lazy and don't write every hour down) and am 110hours short. How can insurance companies charge so much? :SIGH:

Does anyone know a decent insurance company in the VIC area? I miss driving.....

its for good reason, learners are terrible drivers, i know i was anyway. you cant throw someone into a car for the 1st few times and not expect a higher risk of causing an accident, insurance company's know that and adjust fees accordingly

driving schools are your next choice
they used to have student and uni rates

or
you better hope someone hands you 700 cash before to long

to pay for the insurance increase

Stats show learners are safer drivers than P platers and for good reasons. Also, My first driving lesson I was told that my driving was "Commendable". I know insurance companies dont care, but not all learners are **** drivers.

Im thinking just get my magna up and running cause the insurance on that for me is only $460 with AAMI.

My 2nd Gen is insured under my mums name. she's 47, so a low-risk person. BUT it was also insured for a learner driver and for all drivers under 25 years of age. my insurance costs $400 per year full comp with CGU

i agree in some cases safer, but technically less competent and experienced, dont get cut buddy, its facts and insurance companies see that

insure it with aami, i only just got my p's and when i was on my l's, my parents insured me under them and it was like a few extra bucks a month, so try aami, should be a similar price being so recent.

Double check with your insurance company that your has HAS to be on the list of approved drivers.

The insurance company I am with, even though it is approved drivers only allows anyone with my permission who drives less than 10% of the time.

But charge excess X2 + age Excess.

so $250 excess normal becomes $750 for a learner ($250 X2 + $250 age excess)
but no additional insurance premium costs

I always thought that stats showed learner drivers are the safest on the road?

Safer than probationary drivers, mainly because most learners won't be stupid with presumably their parents in the car. Would be an outright lie to say learners are the safest on the road though, most drivers with years and years of experience should be much better.
